Saturday Life As A Play?

Drama assumes an order. If only so that it might have -- by disrupting that order -- a way of surprising.

-Vaclav Havel

Ah -- I'm not sure I understand this. Is -- is it saying that life is generally like a play, and we expect people to adhere to certain "lines?" And when they don't, it shocks us? . . .Actually, if that's the case, it might explain my mother. She's got us all cast in our specific roles: her as the Important Woman, Father as the Good Provider, Me as the Obedient Son. She expects us to act the way we've always acted. But I've not only quit my part -- I've quit the entire play, in favor of a supporting role as Igor To Dr. Emmett Brown. And she's having a hard time adjusting to that.

Hmm. I guess this wasn't so confusing a quote after all.
