*tilts head and squints* Something bugs me about the phrasing of this quote, but I can't put my finger on it. As it is, I guess I get the gist, at least in the sense of a play. You set things up so that the audience has a certain expectation, then you pull the rug out from under them. A dramatic scene takes a turn for the comedic, a romance suddenly becomes a mystery -- stuff like that. Some of the best plays I've seen or been in are all about subverting the way things are supposed to go.
