Tell us two times when you had a fresh start.
“The biggest changeover in my life happened the first time Jake got thrown into Joliet. The band split and we all took straight jobs. It was a fresh start for everyone… not strictly in a good sense, neither. Mr Fabulous became maître d’ at a real fancy place downtown, Matt got himself married to some loudmouth waitress, Blue Lou became a dishwasher and the rest of ‘em formed some candy-band called ‘Murph and the Magictones’. I got a job in a propellants packaging factory, actually settled down someplace and had a very nearly ordinary life for a bit.
“Yeah. That was never gonna work. I was just waiting for my brother.
“Jake got out after two years-on parole for good behaviour-and that was when everything changed again. Quit the job, hit the road. Went all ‘round Illinois, got the band back together, got Jake churched up again, played Chicago like you don’t even know. Eleven days later I was in jail.
“Man… fresh starts are for chumps.”
