Prompt: Tuesday - Do you work to live or do you live to work?
Muse: Jean-Luc Picard
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Humanity has long since passed the need for the accumulation of wealth. Monetary gain is no longer an issue on Earth, making way for peaceful trade when necessary. Otherwise the technology of replication can provide most anyone with anything they might desire. Therefore, as far as employment is concerned a general ideal of bettering oneself and living the life one chooses to live in doing so has settled in over all else. One becomes a doctor because they want to. One becomes a scientist because they want to. One is a parent who stays at home to run a household because they want to do so. And one enrolls in Starfleet because they want to.

This ever-evolving peaceful way of existing is not without its problems. The human equation will always add a dimension to life to the point that a true Utopia could never exist. And I must say that this is just as it should be. That human equation comes with both its positives and negatives but I like to think that it comes with more of the former than the later. That human equation is very important in spite of the few pitfalls that may accompany it.

In answer to the question, I live to work and anyone on Earth who does the opposite does it because of that human equation if only because working to live is not entirely necessary anymore. They wish to work to live as they have every right to do. Just as most of society has evolved to living to work, just as we have every right to do.
