Do you work to live or do you live to work?
I don't usually consider what I do for a living work. It's more of a hobby and I'm very lucky that I get to do what I love professionally. However, my hobby doesn't always bring in enough money to live. And as I'm generally very bad with money, I have to do work on the side that isn't so imaginative or creative as my normal art work. Jobs such as courtroom sketches when an important case is closed to the public. The courthouse calls me fairly regularly for that. I've also done several family portraits for the wealthy types who like to hang them in their foyers. These aren't my favorite things to do so I would call them work. If I lived to work I wouldn't find it necessary to do this kind of side work so I must go with the other option, I work to live.
