[Twosday] Permission or Forgiveness?

Jul 28, 2010 03:10

Usually, I never ask permission, but always end up begging - and I do mean begging - for forgiveness. It's mainly things like re-purposing or altering machines without asking, but this one time...

About a month after I first started at the Warehouse, I was doing inventory. Yeah, normal day. Today, though, I happened to be working on the aisle with a blinking light bulb. Now, these were some super heavy duty bulbs, but I didn't know that, so I asked Artie if I could use the cherry picker to fix it. Shot down, but I think that was a good decision. I wouldn't trust me with a cherry picker, either. At least I asked that time.

It gets worse, though. Heading back to the faulty bulb, I come across a peculiar artifact: Alessandro Volta’s lab coat. I knew Artifacts were off-limits, but it was me versus the light bulb, and I wasn’t going to let it win. So, I put on the coat, which enhances biomagietism, and climbed up the support beam that just happened to be in arms reach of the evil light bulb. So, about fifty feet off the ground, I fixed the bulb. Then…it went out. I got it replaced and everything, but by that time, anything loose and metal decided it really liked me. Eventually, I get pinned between the beam and a bicycle, purely by magnetic force. Artie found me, an while that was good…it did have a downside.

“Oh, hi Artie! Hi…Funny story…I tried to change this light bulb after you expressly told me not to, and man, have I learned my lesson!” Yep. Then I begged for forgiveness. Everything turned out okay, yeah, but I still got punished. The lesson was not to play with the Artifacts, but I still do that. I’m just more careful about which ones.
