2. Which came first, the character or the PB? In Lucy's case, she's canon so the character and PB came about at the same time, which is a plus. For Harley, the character came first, the PB second. The same for Yasushi and Anushika.
3. Why did you choose this particular PB? Lucy's was chosen for me, so that's a moot point.
Harley - I went looking for a pb for this inexplicable Nexus child and after a couple hours of NOTHING I stumbled upon Anna and I was IMMEDIATELY enchanted. She's exactly how I pictured her in my mind, albeit lighter on the makeup, and I had to have her in my life immediately - I hadn't even been planning on PLAYING Harley on a regular basis until I found the pb and felt I absolutely had to.
Yasushi's pb was a struggle - I wanted someone I didn't see pbed TOO often, but still fit the bill for the character. I needed someone that wore gloves more often than not, had an occasional violent demeanor that would lend himself well to the Yakuza style, so on and so forth. I had it narrowed down to a few subjects for a long time before I finally decided. There were a lot of possible pbs that fit those parameters but weren't Japanese, and I threw those out the window right off - the character is Japanese, and thus so is his pb.
Anushika's pb came pretty easily though - I'd sort of had her in mind since the middle of character creation, and finding good pictures to manipulate only sealed the deal. She's exotic enough for my means, so on and so forth.
4. How close is the PB to your character? What are the differences, if any? Lucy's is obviously spot-on, but Harley wears a lot more makeup than Anna does - something I plan on fixing in her icons soon, but I've been lazy so far. Kirito is absolutely perfect - and while Olivia isn't PERFECT for Anushika but she's pretty darn close.
5. Have you modified the PB in any way to be more like your character? For some of Lucy's icons I've darkened her hair when I use candids of Mary, but that's about it. Harley's are all as-is, and so are Yasushi's.
Anushika's are proof that I am insane. Half of her icons are as-is, and half of them are heavily photoshopped - human eyes into more bug-like ones, tinting her skin green, darkening her hair and making her ears pointy. (as an aside, I have an adult OC that has braces. I looked far and wide for a PB, and ended up just shopping on braces myself. I am horribly proud of those icons.)
6. Have you ever changed your character's PB / would you ever? Why, or why not? Iii am trying to remember if I have, but I don't think so! There is an older alt of Lucy that I have (*cough*) that has a different PB, but I'd only considered using Mary for about five minutes before a better option was presented to me, so I don't think it counts.
7. Where did you find icons of your PB, or did you make them yourself? I tend to make most icons myself, but if I don't - in Harley's case especially, I didn't make any of her icons - I tend to get them off of various users on ij. As for texting icons, I like to use iconomicon.
8. Is it important to have an appropriate PB for your character? Why or why not? I feel like it is, especially for original characters that I've had - canon ones that have art I'm fine with using art from their canon etc, but with OCs I feel weird, not having icons - especially if there's something notable about their appearance (see: Anushika). I spend a lot of time finding good pbs, and I hopeee it shows.
9. Have you ever been favorably/unfavorably predisposed towards a character because you liked or didn't like the PB choice? I often feel like it's unfair of people to not bother finding a pb that fits - if I spend so much time finding a perfect PB so that I can play a character well, it's like they don't care enough to get it right so they don't care enough to play well, either. I try not to discriminate but it's something I need to work on.
10. Have you ever had a character who was represented by text icons / no icon only because they were too difficult to find a PB for? Not that I can recall~
