I Love Writing. And the Entire Process! (Plus NaNoWriMo Update.)

I love to write. But more than that, I love the entire process of writing. I love the research, I love coming up with the overall plot, various scenes, the characters, the twists and turns.

As I sit and write on my NaNo novel, I love the way the book seems to write itself. I know that's crazy, but it certainly does have a mind of its own (as any writer can tell you). I'll have one idea, but the book just heads off in another direction!

It's totally delightful.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not suggesting that it's not hard work. It certainly is. But it's fascinating and interesting and fun, too!

By the way, here's my NaNo word count, as of just past 7:00 p.m. on Saturday (with one day left to go):

44,934 / 50,000
(89.9%)
Actually, my own count (using Microsoft Word 2003), is 45,213 -- which is a difference of 279 words.

I remember this from doing NaNo back in 2005, by the way. You think you've done it, then you discover you haven't (!!!). I'm glad I checked, because let's face it -- every word counts for me as I'm right down to the wire!!!

Anyway, according to NaNo's count (and it's the one that matters, after all), I need an additional 5,066 words.

So, what do you guys think? Can I do that in the time remaining to finish, or not?

Well, whether I do or don't, I'm madly in love with my novel -- and I can't wait to finish it up. This time I am going to finish -- and then I'm going to shop it around and find a publisher, by hook or by crook.

Marilyn mistressmarilyn currently has 43,096 words done. And I totally believe she can do the remaining 6,904 words. I believe in her.

Can you believe we're thinking of taking time off to go to the show??? We really (really, really) want to go see "The Dark Knight" again, in second run (on the big screen). We might put it off until tomorrow night, though, considering. (smile)

On that note, I'd better get back to it!

Just think. Both Marilyn and I have only been working on our NaNo novels for a week, today. Imagine trying to tackle 50,000 in one week, rather than one month. I have to say, I'm rather proud of both of us...
