What is the big deal with swine flu?
No no, seriously. There are more reported cases of the common cold, cancer, HIV...the list goes on. It's now officially a "pandemic" which means that it is spreading under its own power in two countries, or words to that effect. But what is the big deal. It's not even nearly as bad as normal flu in terms of how ill it makes you. OK so there's not a vaccine, but again, not everyone gets the normal flu vaccine. If you take nomal precautions, you'll be fine. If you catch it, just treat yourself as normal and it'll go away. Yes it's going to kill someone at some point, in fact has done already, but then again...all the above listed illnesses can kill you. Cold included.
OK so it's a new illness, and people should be aware of the implications. But the fact it's not really that bad a virus should mean that really the news shouldn't be hyping up the bad sides.
It's possible that in this day of instant information that the world wide web has provided us that we need a news fix twentyfour-seven and so any news is good for business, and any bad news, no matter how slight, is even better.
Still, one good thing has come of it...
If I catch it, I'm taking a month off work!
