Between the dim and the dark

Tragic things:
- I recently found out that an in-law relative (who I didn't really know) killed himself by throwing himself in front of a subway. In rush hour. At the central station in Stockholm. It caused big headlines and three hours of downtime for the subway. It wasn't exactly surprising it'd end badly for him, but it's truly horrific to choose to end your life this way, for everyone involved. There must have been hundreds of witnesses...

- This 'Jihad Jane' was apparently planning on killing a Swedish artist (whose drawing has caused a lot of debate. It's a pretty bad and pointless drawing, though). Reading about her, I found it quite striking how media immediately pulled out everything tragic about her life. And I'm ALL for looking for explanations and clues to why people do criminal acts (in order to learn how we can work to try and prevent people from ending up there at all). But imagine if it's been a man - or a man with a black beard - I'm sure his life would never have been described like this. He wouldn't have been portrayed as a victim, but as a cold-blooded killer (generally speaking). I find this quite interesting, and a little sad.

Happy things:
- I finally watched the season finale of White Collar and it really was an ending right from fanfiction, wasn't it? Neal thinking he knows what he wants, trying to convince himself it's what he wants. And all the time avoiding Peter, because he's 'the only one who could talk him out of it'. We never REALLY knew if Neal changed his mind and chose Peter (!) over Kate, but he was definitely having some VERY serious doubt. Of course, now, Neal can always say to himself that he would have chosen Kate and he'll live with the regret blah blah. Still, Peter will be there to comfort him. And Elizabeth!
Also, damn, Matt Bomer looks gorgeous in glasses. Makes me a little sad - again - about Jensen's lasik surgery. Glasses are of the good!

- I'm still loving Sherlock Holmes, even if I'm too lazy to go read that much new things. I'm always terribly picky in new fandoms - until I'm over some kind of threshold and read everything indiscriminately. *g*
Meanwhile I can sit and gaze at this beautiful photo of Holmes and Watson, being beautifully intimate (bosom buddies!). I just love the way Holmes looks at Watson (or the way RDJ looks at Jude Law - either way works).
