Do you like really meaty AUs? I do. A lot.
Hence, I'm currently reading the fabulous story about
Ronon Dex, Senior Editor by
lalejandra. It's mostly Sheppard/Dex if you need to know, but with a little Sheppard/McKay thrown in. It's one of those long, thorough stories that really pull me in. AUs can be so perfect that way, since you have to conjure up another universe - if the writer manages, I'm completely sold. In non-AUs, the universe is already given, after all, and you play with other variables. Hence, AUs are a tricky business. But so wonderful when they are good.
You should also read a story by
smittywing that is still a WIP (but it's being posted at a steady pace and as I understand it's basically all been written already) but is already long and lovely, starting
here with the first part. It's a fabulous rewrite, sort of, of Can't Buy Me Love and its got loads and loads of beautiful pining. There's just NOTHING better than that. I love pining so much. (For the record, this pining is of the John/Rodney variety.)
I asked for crossovers and
isiscolo responded in the most magnificent way: She has created the community
sga_6degrees for all those David Hewlett-movies and Joe Flanigan tv-show crossovers you could ever want. Yay! Go join!
Capote was terrific, I thought. I always find it intriguing when a story has the POV of a not entirely likeable person. It's not easy knowing who to side with here, just as Truman Capote himself is so terribly conflicted in the end. I've read In Cold Blood (ages ago) and I thought it was very good. I remember that one of the best things about it, was that in the end, you didn't know what to make of those boys, whether to hate them or want to take care of them. The movie captured that sentiment very well, explaining why Truman Capote wrote the book that way.
Lastly,
this girl has a few pictures of JC at Tao in Vegas up in that post. He's drunk! And seemingly dancing with girls hanging on him... *g*
