Wating Period

No, not guns, divorce.  And 2 years, yet.

Can we count the number of things wrong with this?  North carolina is 1 year.  Believe me, that's plenty.  In fact, the X and I got tired of having it hanging over our heads and went in after 6 months or so and just lied about our seperation period.  OTOH, there is nothing wrong with a reasonable waiting period, for guns or divorce.  Some things should have a cooling off period and not be done in the heat of the moment.
So:
The Texas proposal died last year in a House committee,
Which is just as I would expect anywhere but in Texas, or maybe Kansas, making this a grandstanding gesture that is nothing  but a showcase using legislative time and money to impress his conservative base.
using $8 million a year in federal dollars from the Temporary Assistance For Needy Families program.
Oh good, and we steal the money for premarital from the poor.  From what sounds like an emergency program, no less.  I shudder to speculate who they'll ream to pay for these new classes.
effort to chip away at no-fault divorce
Which is the actual danger, of course, grandstanding or no.  Like attacking abortion or any civil liberty, small incremental steps for their own (or the public) good to set precedent and begin erosion.  The ultimate goal being to end "no fault" divorce; put up barriers and make women have to prove... I don't know what, in order to get free.  Add that to making abortions illegal, banning birth control, etc. and we can reach the real ultimate goal of reducing women to chattel.*  small-dicked weasels, the lot of them.
I want my button that reads:  "First Roe, then IXX" because you know, you fucking know that is their ultimate wet dream.

*worst of all, by the time they achieve it I'll be too old to enjoy it.
