I had a very odd dream that some important figure in the Buddhist comunity died, and I was in a large Buddhist temple to celebrate his rebirth, or some such... and I was wearing green robes and a head scarf. I had a quarter clutched in one hand, and I could smell the sandlewood. There was a performane going on with dancers and singers in chinese and english both, in traditional costumes. It was all very beautiful. I donated the quarter and signed my name on a yellowish sheet of paper- it was all I had to give. The name that had signed before me was "Shidi". I have no idea what it means. I think my son and my mother were also there, and impatient to get home. But I wanted to see the performance, and be at the temple. I think I turned on a fan at one point, and saw some monks and a child in a monk's robe at some point, too. And the temple was behind some steel door like an auditorium has, and there were carpeted steps down into the stage area, and people prostrating themselves in bows (mostly women, I think, dressed like I was) all the way down the steps. Some man was bringing in red folding chairs because there weren't enough seats for people. There was a plaque on the door.. I think the man sort of looked like an oriental Elvis, almost...
What an odd dream. I do miss the temple, however, with the smells of sandlewood in the air, and all the many beautiful golden buddhas, and the four altars on the side, and large central altar. I miss the wisdom of the monk, Lianja, who taught me so many things about this life and others.. I just.. I don't know. I don't feel like I will ever go back to the temple in this lifetime. I had wanted to be married there. The temple in my dream was not the temple I had been to. But still, it made me feel at peace.
