Hmm. I am not one to hate, but the man I saw wearing a red shirt with yellow writing clutching a well fingered bible outside of Wesco is a moron. The preacher's entire arguement against what any one said that day was "In the Gospel according to Mark...." "In Job chapter two..." yadda yadda yadda. Thanks for demonstrating your reading skills. We're all very impressed. However you lack in analytical skills. Having been Catholic Schooled for 14 years finally comes in handy. Thank you Mom and Dad. The bible is full of contraditions: "An eye for an eye" and then "If your neighbor slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other cheek so that it can be slapped as well." A majority of the bible is full of these little verses. So what do we do? HMMM. Upon further thought perhaps Jesus, the Apostles and all the Saints are trying to get us to THINK FOR OURSELVES. Hello - Jesus died. He cannot be with us every step of the way to hold our hand when crossing the street or whiping our ass when we are done going potty. Thus He left us with the Bible; a tool to use or not to use to make up our own morals and values. Please, preacher man, stop reciting quotes writen in a dead language and try to apply them to modern day thought.
A facebook group I'm apart of posted this question in regaurds to the preacher:
Donte Freakin Bean:
first ima start of wit a story so wendsday theres was a protest at our school... this african american dude came to the campus with a suit on and a bible in hand but on top of the suit he wore a shirt sayin HOMOS DONT GO TO HEAVEN and on the back it read HOMOS GO TO HELL... so he was out there preaching out loud... basically telling the everyone there about the things that will make you go to hell aportion, having sex before your married, fornacation, and all that good stuff and not one person bothered to listen to him... they disrespected him and every way people threw bibles, eggs made posters reading im an idiot and stuff like that... but that not what im what to discuss... i know theres not gonna be as many people discussing this topic but hey only the brave will comment so the question is... How do you feel about GAY's AND lesbians, how do you feel about homosexuals being able to adopt children... and is that goin to be a good the child.... where do homo's go after death.... so let see who is the first to comment about this but please do me a favor and NOT LEAVE ANY DISCUSSIONs ON THE WALL LEAVE IT ON THE DISCUSSION BOARD
To which I went on a rambling reply:
I think that there is nothing wrong with being gay, lesbian, bi and/or transgender. I have just as much respect for them as I wish people would have for my sexual preference. There is no correlation between sexual preference and the ability to raise children, so I vote yes for the adoption of children by a GLBT parent. My biological father was an abusive alcoholic who was in no way fit to parent any child, his own or anothers, but he was a straight man. My cousin is a lesbian and her and her partner are raising two excellent boys. The boys have learned to be compassionate, set priorities, be accepting of others, kind, generous, play sports, watch tv, have poker tournaments, how to cook, how to get good grades. What REALLY MATTERS when raising children is the quality of parenting. Having a mother and a father does not equal success in raising children. Stating that a mother is necessary so that children learn to the gental, femine characters and that a father is necessary so that children learn the 'storng' masculine characteristics is completely gender discrimination and utterly untrue as well as naive. The only difference between my cousin's boys and those children raised by straight couples is that the level for understanding and acceptance of the difference of others may be slightly higher depending on the children in question. Children need to be in a safe, encouraging, loving environment. Sometimes it's a single father who fits the bill. At times it's the traditional mother, father, 1.2 kids, Fido the dog and a little picket fence. But in the modern world, it's a foul and ignorant move to disreguard same sex parenting.
Consider the family in which the father dies or leave the family and a mother is left to fend for herself and her children. Then a grandmother or a sister comes into the picture to help with the house and/or the children. In this situation there are two females raising children. With out the title 'lesbian' this becomes socially acceptable.
Hmm. 'Socially acceptable'. Society will reflect the values and morals of the people with in the society. This means that at any given time the values and morals can, will and do change. I encourage people to take the time to logically think about the individual situation (as opposed to using inductive reasoning) and make decisions for you self. If your new found (or if your thoughts confirm the ones you had prior to) go against the grain socially, economically, or even against your family, then be stead fast in your beliefs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an individual with your own thoughs. You may find yourself in position to fight for your cause and try to educate the minds of others. Be not ashamed of what you believe and how you feel. But never make a belief of anothers your own with out analyzing the evidence behind it.
To adress such instances of priests who have sexually molested alter boys - Yes, these men are disgusting perverts who took advantage of their power and position within society. However, children are sexually assulted and molested by adults every day. It is not a new nor shocking story. The emphasis on the sexual preference by these select priests only justify the bias held by a vocal extremist minority.
Whether or not a person is "good" or "bad" is completely subjective. What people should know by our age is that judging some one because of a single factor is unfair and cruel. The sexual preference factor could be replaced with RACE, GENDER, SOCIAL CLASS, IQ, ABILITY (ie. football star, pianist, reknown author) and so on and then perhaps a few opinions on the subject might change.
The lesson here is to get to know a person (goals, dreams, fears, wants, needs ,desires, favorite football team, expectations, favorite movie, etc..) before making a judgement.
PS. I disagree with this terminology of 'homo'. Homo derives from the latin word homosapien which is just the class of animal all men and women are classified in. So ... It makes no sense and only makes the preaching man look like an arogant fool.
