Hard Core Spring Cleaning

Feb 10, 2009 17:04

I am spring cleaning.

My poor cat is terrified.

I've re-arranged my room, and am in the process of attempting to get rid of at least a third of the crap contained therein that I haven't even looked at, let alone thought about, in the past few years. I'd forgotten I had even half of the stuff here, and only realized how much useless shit I have while looking for clothes for Mandy and Thomas to wear to Rocky. Tons of clothes that I'll never wear again; clothes that don't fit anyone; broken things I had meant to repair but never got around to fixing; things that I wouldn't throw away for silly sentimental reasons that have been sitting in the bottom of a box or bag, unloved. Piles of old papers and notebooks that are no longer useful, usable, or handy. Boxes and bags filled to the brim with who knows what and stuffed into the bottom of the closet, into a bookshelf, under the bed.

I've already gotten rid of one garbage bag full of stuff, I'm aiming to have at least two more, and an additional bag or two of donate-able things.

Everything I'm keeping will be sorted and cleaned, folded and nicely organized before it's put back away. My clothing chest will actually contain clothes and linens, my closet will be accessible, my bookshelves neat, and under the bed will only contain boxes, not piles of stuff and bags.

And hopefully cleaning my room and throwing out the trash physically will help me do the same mentally.
