They don't call them "meme" for nothing, because it's all about me-me (I know that's not how it's really pronounced, but it's just too perfect!) Watching the intro to The Mary Tyler Moore Show - sorry for the subpar quality, btw, it was the ( Read more... )

Love this muchly, thanks Viva. Adored teh_MaryTM show, the hat throwing at the end of the sequence and the supporting cast. Ed Asner, FTW.

Thanks for the cheery memories on a coolish Saturday afternoon, ma'am.

When you come and visit me in Mpls I'll take you to the MTM house. On the show it is supposed to be a boarding house full of colorful characters, but in reality it's a $2 million mansion in the fanciest part of town, LOL. Then we can go to the Nicollet Mall and throw our hats, and sing the song of course.

*huggles*

Could we wear the checkered pant suit? LOL

I'm all for the singing and smiling, MTM style

I like this pick! It makes me nostalgic for my childhood too, only I was watching in re-run of course, but still, nostalgia is nostalgia, I feel the same way about Fraggle Rock, which by the way totally beats MTM. Why, because only THAT show could get me to run upstairs, get into my purple leotard, run back downstairs, dance around the family room, and sing all the words.

I want MTM's hair.

Sadly(as evidenced by Ten crying), there are no pictures of baby me in a purple leotard dancing around to Fraggle Rock, come to think of it, it wasn't even purple, it was lavender. Booo, I know, total booooo.

*wipes tears off Tens face gently*

Ten is too pretty to be sad ;(

It was a Barney the dinosaur leotard, wasn't it. I knew you were hiding something. Lavender, indeed. *scoffs*

Oh God, yes. I haven't seen this in years, and yet the first few bars of that theme song instantly catapaulted me back in time. She really was awesome, wasn't she? *loves*

To this day, I can't attend a funeral without thinking of that episode where - was it a famous clown who died? - everyone was making wisecracks leading up to the funeral and she was cross with all of them, but then at the actual funeral, they were all very serious and she was the one who kept bursting into laughter.

Did you watch it some nights? I think it might have been on around 7pm?

We didn't watch it religiously, but MTM was always something the family could watch and sigh to.

I pronounce it me-me! I guess others pronounce is 'mem' or 'meem' right? It looks like me-me to me and that's how I say it! ;)

Here's the way I understand it...it's pronounced "meem". Really, though, the way people tend to use it on LJ is to describe a quiz or questionaire, and that's technically what a "meme" is. A true "meme" is something is a phenomena that goes "viral", like a saying that everyone picks up. So, I think we can safely call these me-me's. That's probably more than you wanted to know ;)
