30 Days of TV -- Day 10

Jul 18, 2010 21:25

Can't believe it's day 10. And I haven't missed a day yet! *high fives self* *misses*
Ouch.

Without further ado,

Day 10 -- A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

THE TUDORS

Originally I had no interest whatsoever in watching this. I have nothing against costume dramas, or the pretty pretty people who populate them, but I had just been let down by Robin Hood and was in no mood to repeat the experience. I can't even remember what lead to me finally watching, although rosie_spleen's uh, "encouragement" was certainly a factor.

This is the "show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving" post, so no extra points for guessing what happened next *g*. The plot (yes, there is plot!) which goes into the political backdrop surrounding Henry's reign is intriguing, and the historical events had me scrambling for Wikipedia after each episode. The prettiness of Jonathan Rhys-Myers and company is offset by amazing performances (especially by Sam Neill and Jeremy Northam) in supporting roles.

So just to be clear, when it comes to The Tudors, I watch for the story, and the stellar acting. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I'd be glad to be proven wrong like this any time.

Tomorrow is another bummer topic...Day 11 -- A show that disappointed you
