Now if it will just stop raining

The guinea pigs are back!  They seem to have been treated well--their coats are healthy, Cobweb even looks a little slimmer, and they are more comfortable than ever being handled.  For a half an hour after I got them settled, I watched Wraithe and Raven watching the pigs.  The felines were enraptured.  Badger was very curious about these large black beasts on the outside of his cage who were staring at his every move.  So. Cute.  For dinner I gave them parsley stems and carrot tops and diced green pepper.  Cobweb is still a whore for carrots.  I'm so happy to have them again :)

Tackled the rest of my shopping list today.  Note To Self--do not go to Kroger two days before Thanksgiving if you want to have an annoyance-free shopping experience.  I've mentioned before that I'm a Get In And Get The Hell Out type of grocery shopper.  Impossible when half the neighborhood is there picking up flower centerpieces and pecans and yams and fucking buttermilk.  Navigating the baking supply aisle was a special test of my ability to leash my inner misanthrope.  Just pick out the damn biscuit mix and carry on kplzthnx.  But it's all done.

Tomorrow I will make Cranberry Horseradish Sauce, Chai Cheesecake, Wheatberry Salad, Giblet Stock, and prep all the vegetables.  Thursday morn I will roast garlic for the dinner rolls, finish the stuffing, get ingredients in the bread machine, stuff the bird, rub it with herbs and butter and get it in the oven in plenty of time for kick-off.  My Beloved Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions.  A perfect Thanksgiving.

Today I ran 10 kilometers on the treadmill.  Yay me :)  My plan was to do that distance by Christmas.  I'm kinda proud of myself for not abandoning this one.  I meant to get to five and a half miles today.  At three and a half I was like "I fucking hate this" so I told myself to just get to five.  At mile five, I felt good and kept going.  At five and a half, I still felt good, so I pushed through to 6.2.  Right now my knees are a tiny bit twingy going up and down steps, but hamstrings are fine.  I guess next is a 10 mile run.  Maybe by Scout's birthday at the end of February?  I don't want to overdo it and end up like I was four years ago when I was exercising a lot and fucked up hamstring tendons.

Two great stories on Morning Edition today.

First http://www.npr.org/2011/11/22/142641756/did-bush-tax-cuts-foreshadow-supercommittes-failure one of the best stories on the lead-up to our current fiscal crisis I've heard.

Second http://www.npr.org/2011/11/22/142456999/economy-mutes-a-longtime-louisville-record-shop  about the closing of an independent music store that was in my neighborhood.  Can't even describe how sad--ear-x-tacy was an anchor for the Highlands.  It was one of the things, if not the main thing, that made the Highlands the "coolest" neighborhood in Louisville.  They had to move last year to a smaller place (there is now a Panera Bread in their old, iconic location *sigh* sign of the times) down the street.  Now they have closed up for good.  I never thought I'd see it happen.  Bad economy, changing way consumers purchase music.  At least we still have an awesome independent bookseller that appears to be weathering the evolving market.

That's it for now.  Time to write.

exercise, football, i need a manic tag, npr, whining, yay, pets, grrrr, politics
