College Apartment

I haven't posted in a while. And in all honesty, I don't know why. I guess my life isn't interesting enough or something? But something brings up my concern recently. I've just moved into an apartment because of where I'm going for school and well.. it reeks of smoke. I'm not sure if the previous tenants smoked or it's just a whole different problem and it's bothering me.

I've read online about scrubbing the walls, and shampooing the carpet and pouring baking soda and what not all over.. and vinegar. The list goes ON and ON and ON. I love the apartment. It's gigantic compared to my dorms and everything is pretty nice (minus the fact I couldn't sleep at all last night, but I think that's partially has to do with the fact that I'm not use to my new bed, surroundings etc), but the problem is... I'm not sure what to do about the smoke problem.

Like my roommate and I turn on our fan, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with helping get RID of the smell or perhaps make it more persistent. I'm AIRING out the living room and bedrooms, but I think the major culprit has to do with the carpet. That thing practically acts like a sponge to the smoke because considering the kitchen, bathroom and closet smells milder (my sense of smell has also grown accustomed to the smoke smell, so it takes a while for me to realize whether or not it smells like smoke or not). I think it has to do with the fact that those areas have flooring that ISN'T CARPET.

So I'll probably test out that VINEGAR and BAKING SODA remedy.. and if it doesn't work out. I guess, my roommate and I will have no choice but to contact the people and see if they can solve it for us. Although, I hope we don't have to come down to that seeing it's just a pain for one thing. I mean we just moved a shitload of stuff into the apartment. CLEANING the apartment to get rid of the smell or what not would mean moving all the stuff out again? And to where?
