First off... I've been trying for the last two hours to get this damned entry to take a LJ cut and it absolutely refuses, so I give up. People will just have to deal with a long post.
So, if you take away my personal emotional drama then some interesting crap happened during the last few weeks.
First off this month,
marielyuy stopped by on her way to visit her boyfriend. It was an interesting visit... I finally bought a couch so she'd have some place to sleep and while it is a hideous couch, it's quite comfy and later came back into use when
morgans_mommy and Morgan came to visit. They drove over 700 miles to see me!!! I feel loved. Of course, I was a grumpy bitch for most of their visit. Morgan was being irritating in the way that only a very intelligent and witty 5 year old could be and I was running on almost no sleep since my manager wouldn't give me an extra day off for their visit. I wanted at least 4 whole days with them and instead I got 2... but we had fun. We went out to eat and we went to Charlestown Landing and saw the boat with CJ on it! CJ is teh awesome and I totally have a geek crush on his cranium. He's an American history nut and is just really fun to talk/listen to. We also saw the animals... including the bobcats that are rarely visible and the panther who is usually hiding. The otter was even out! I was happy.
And then we went to the Aquarium. They had penguins, which smell horrid but they really are kinda cute. And then I stumbled upon the otters. You really know that I am technologically illiterate when I'm standing there for at least five minutes trying to take a picture with
evergreenstone 's camera of these damn creatures who move so fast that you can only catch their blur and
morgans_mommy leans around me and says, "Why don't you use the record feature?" I blinked. I glared at the otters. Then I glared at the camera. But by gods I recorded those cute little bastards and now I can't figure out how to put the recording up here... because I want to share the cute, damn it!
Anyway, we also went to Fort Sumter and I took some awesome pictures out there. I've been here for three years and have never gone to the place where the civil war started. I'm slightly ashamed of myself, but I've made up for it now. I want to go back because the tour does NOT give you enough time to really appreciate the history. You barely have enough time to climb the steps and look out over the battlements, and glance... not look or appreciate.... glance at the museum before they're calling you back to the boat. I must admit that I became so caught up in BEING at Ft. Sumter that I completely abandoned my guests and didn't see them again until they called us back to the boat. But I made sure to take plenty of pictures to drive her dad mad with jealousy and now all I have to do is burn them onto several discs and mail them to her. I seriously took over 300 pictures and my favorite is of the jellyfish and I wish I would have remembered the record feature for them as well because you could actually SEE the electrical current running through them.
I'm sure I left things out but I'm counting on
morgans_mommy to help me fill in the blanks... like the beach, and downtown Charleston. Or I may post about that excursion later. I was amused by her reaction to Black Market Minerals, though. Her and Morgan were all, "I want to buy EVERYTHING, but what would I do with it?"
And now I look forward to ending this month with
marielyuy stopping back by for Harborfest on her way home. We can geek out over the ships and hopefully see the pirate troupe and take many many pictures for
librosamo I may even work up the energy to finally climb the steps of the Customs House.
As far as my daily accomplishments, I went grocery shopping, emailed school because they STILL haven't gotten back to me from where my doctor ordered me to quit last fall, and I'm getting ready to pay my electric bill. If school doesn't get back to me soon, I may end up having a rather lengthy rant and actually leaving Charleston as soon as my lease is up here. We'll see.
