M For Movies

It's been a while since I've reviewed a film here. Maybe I was saving up or something. Or maybe something else. Anyway, here's a few quickie synopses before I get into today's main event.

Match Point: Tragic love triangle. Scarlett Johansson is hot. Brian Cox not a bad guy for once. No ninjas or zombies; some shotgun action. Nothing special.

Disclaimer: As Evey kisses V's unfeeling mask, I might have said "Oh V, this is just like all my Episode III love scenes."

You owe me a cup of chai, as it is now all over my keyboard. I feel the need to share that with metaquotes, with you permission.

Heh...good review there! Yeah, Natalie Portman = bland. If I recall correctly, I have yet to be interested in any of her characters. Wait, wasn't she in Anywhere But Here? I think i liked that movie...but I'm not sure, it's been so long. Then again, maybe her appeal is more geared to people who are attracted to women? Though if I'm assuming right, you like women but still don't like her.

Either way, here you go. *hands you a cookie*

Fairly accurate. Attractiveness is not an issue- she's quite attractive. And I liked her in The Professional, but she was about 12 at the time, so her acting style and personality were much different. I think whatever she had might have been ok at that age, but as time went on, it might not have developed enough. Now she's... average.

Mmmm, cookie.

Here from metaquotes.

I just wanted to agree with the The Professional thing. She was fantastic there, but she had a lot of talent for a child.. and anyone watching a movie with Gary Oldman and Jean Reno both should be kicked in the face with a boot if they don't enjoy it.

I agree with your take on the film considering that I haven't as yet read VfV (although I had planned too before the film came out, but thought it would spoil it for me, so I reversed the order).

And we don't say 'bollocks' with anything near the frequency that they do in the film. We're more likely to say 'fuck off' or 'don't talk shite' (depending on the context). 'Bollocks' is reserved for either spilling one's own pint or chopping of a minor digit by accident.

If that's the case, I'll be saying "bollocks" a lot more often than even this film managed. "Bollocks! Pinky finger. Bollocks! Knuckles. Bollocks! Middle fing- Bollocks again! AAAAHHHHH!!!"

"Bollocks" got funnier and funnier with each iteration. My British moviewatching colleague agreed that there was an excess of bollockery in the film. I guess they were only allowed to purchase two British words. Bollocks was one. I believe "cockawillies" was the other, although I'm not remembering the word correctly because it was too funny at the time. Whatever Inspector Fitch said at the Three Waters Memorial.

Damn, I did miss a good opportunity for a pun there. Alas!

Your hometown blew up buildings for 4th of July? Daaaaamn... I'm going there this summer. Party time!

The book did not have V-Evey OTP loving going on. He had more of an "influential father figure thing" for her.

And yeah, I've been humming 1812 all day. BOOM!

Hahaha... "Guys in joker masks are dreeeeeeamy."

July 4ths with exploding buildings are indeed the best.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't kick her out of bed or anything. My man-parts are quite clear on that point. She's just not all that as an actress. ;-)

There is that. Hotness does not equal acting skills. It just lends presence and eye candy. Even worse when it's false constructed "hotness". Eeeewwww, Paris Hilton.
