Trick or Treat- why I loathe it!

I loathe Trick or Treat for various reasons; I don't like being disturbed at home, if they aren't expected they aren't invited! When I'm home apart from friends and family I don't want anyone from outside. Period.

Then there's the biggie: for 364 days a year Goths, Vampire life stylers, in fact anyone who dresses a bit different can be verbally and physically abused, even killed and its not even a hate crime. And then for that last day in October they want to dress up in cheapo 'K-Mart' spooky clothes and knock on my door and expect to be treated like family. I'm suddenly for that one day expected to provide sweets for a stranger's children, whereas at any other time I'd be called a paedo for offering sweets to a child.

Then there's the fact that not everybody is into Halloween, if they knocked on a Born Again Christian's door it would cause offense, and what about a frightened old person who doesn't want to be answering the door after dark?

After avoiding the first two sorties by sitting in my bedroom reading with the front room light out, I decided to go back to my sofa and chill out. Then another lot arrived and the parent was instructing their children to shout Trick of Treat over and over. I just ignored them, and the brats walked away saying 'there was somebody in there'. It was like they were entitled to something and I wasn't giving it to them.
