Thanks to
bookwormprinces for the kick in the pants I needed to start writing again. :)
Character bible
here This is a very short scene basically introducing Ian (Paul McGann) and transitioning Alan (John Simm) from his work world into his father's retirement village.
EXT. WHISPERING PINES. DAY.
Alan sticks one leg out the car door and attempts to follow
with the rest of his body, his effort impeded by the door
frame colliding with his head. Grunting, he falls back into
his seat and his phone clatters to the ground. Scowling in
mixed frustration and embarrassment, he heaves himself from
the car and scoops up his phone, checking it for
damage. Aside from some minor scratches, there is none, but
he does notice that he has no signal. Tucking it back in
his pocket, he checks to see that the proximal scanner is
still hidden under his jacket sleeve and walks toward the
door marked "RECEPTION" with "ALL VISITORS PLEASE SIGN IN"
in smaller letters underneath.
A small bell tinkles as Alan pushes open the door. IAN
COOPER looks up from his book with a broad smile and bounds
out of his chair, leaving "THE MAKING OF A DETECTIVE" on the
desk.
IAN
Welcome to Whispering Pines! Are
you here to visit someone?
ALAN
(slightly disconcerted by
Ian’s enthusiasm)
Er, yeah, James Andrews.
IAN
Oh, you must be Alan! It’s so nice
to meet you. Your father’s a very
popular fellow around here, you
know. And he talks about you all
the time. Lloyd’s, right?
ALAN
(overwhelmed)
What?
IAN
You work for Lloyd’s, don’t
you? Loss adjustment?
ALAN
Oh, right. Yeah, I do. (beat)
Listen, I don’t have long...
IAN
Of course, of course! Go right on
in. You know where your father’s
apartment is?
Alan nods, returning through the door he came in with
another tinkle.
