I told people the day that press release came out that they only listed everyone as part of the cast because the finale hadn't aired yet. I KNEW they were trying to trick us with that. If people had listened to me instead of celebrating (again, like I told them not to), they wouldn't be so surprised by this news.
Quitting a show that gets such low ratings already, and needs all the support it can get, is not a show of love. Those people are basically giving them their cancellation notice, so screw them, all of them. I'm sorry but Cas was never what Kripke intended the show to be about, it's about Sam and Dean. Always has been, always will be, and that isn't going to change just because the fans like Cas. He was never supposed to be a solid, permanent character, he was a side character, just like all of the other side characters. We knew he had to go eventually. Sure, Cas fans should be sad about it, but they need to stop being children and support the show that GAVE them Cas and Misha. And like I said in my post the other day, them giving up on the show is basically telling Misha he's fired since he will be when the show loses ratings because of all of this. That'll be good for him. He has a family to support and he's going to be fired. Good job, fandom. For all we know, he WANTED the writers to give him less screen time. He already missed the first year of West's life. I can imagine he doesn't want to lose anymore time with him.
I know, we talked about this on twitter. And we knew this would be the fallout when it became clear that's what CW did.
I'm just seriously at the point where I don't care anymore that people are too ignorant or just blind to understand that Sam/Dean were always supposed to be the only main characters of the show. Cas came about through fan support and frankly Bobby did too.
Jim has said he doesn't want to be listed as a regular, to much work and I think they have a totally different set of contract rules about what they can and can't do. I hate how no one considers that like you said maybe Misha wanted this change for career purposes as well as family reasons.
I also wish the fans would understand how lucky we are that Jared and Jensen have continued to sign on for more seasons and have said they will consider a s8 if there is demand because I think if you listen close enough, they both wouldn't mind the show ending but they continue because of the fans.

I'm pretty sure if the fans hadn't gotten so attached to Cas in S4 that he would've only lasted throughout S4 and then they would've gotten rid of him. The only reason he lasted this long is because of that, but they couldn't keep him around forever, at least not without changing him (aka making him human, or what they did here - making him evil and a villain). There's only so much they can do with the angels and Heaven before it starts getting repetitive. What they've done with turning him into God gives them a whole new canvas to work with when it comes to him. If we get a S8, I can't imagine them taking him any further. I don't know if they're going to end up having to kill him, or if they'll help redeem him, but either way, I don't think he'll last longer than S7.

Exactly. The way Jared sounded the other day, when he was saying that he'd be okay with S7 being the last one, there was a hint in his voice that sounded like he was ready for it to end next year. I think they both want to start families, but as long as the show is going, they're going to be held back from that, and I think that's going to be a big influence in whether or not there's a S8. I wouldn't blame them at all if they decided not to do it. I'm sure they're also ready to start doing other things with their careers and they can't do that while SPN is still going.
Jared's already said he wants kids but they won't have any while he works on the show. When s7 was still up in the air they had said they would do it but wouldn't mind if s6 was the end. I'm eternally grateful for them deciding to another season and keeping an open mind for one more after that.
I'm the same age as Jensen and I think about it now that if I have kids in the next 5 years I'm going to be well in my 50's before they are grown. It's a kind of scary thought so I totally understand the desire to move on and start a life outside of SPN for them.
