It’s been a long time since I’ve had a weekend so busy. We made plans for Topher to come over and spend the night on Friday. Jodi brought him over after school and we played with him for a few hours. Then we had to go to the laundromat since we had nothing clean. I HATE not having a washer and dryer. We recently found a really great laundromat pretty much across the street, so it’s not as bad as it’s been in the past. We got a ton of laundry done in an hour and a half so I was really happy after that. I asked Topher what he would pick if he could have anything for dinner. What did he pick? Hotdogs. Yea. So we ate and then J.R. had to go to band practice and I put Topher to bed around 8:30. On Saturday, we watched Spiderman and Toph and J.R. played Madden ‘05 until Jodi came to pick him up.

Saturday night was J.R.’s band, Aura’s first show (opening for Foma at Jillians). We went over to Miller’s house at 8pm so they could load all the equipment. When we got to the venue, J.R. saw that Chris (one of the guitar players) had shoved J.R.’s bass into the back of his truck and tore 2 big gouges out of his case. J.R. is completely anal about his equipment and it’s hard to even find a little scratch on anything. He asked Chris what happened, to which he basically replied “it’s just a case”....didn’t act the least bit sorry. Everyone was very annoyed (to say it nicely) with the way Chris was acting. I guess that’s a regular thing in this band though cause I heard a lot of Chris bashing going on throughout the night. I’m not quite sure yet what the story is surrounding his position in the band. While we were bringing in the equipment, we found out that Kambouris (singer of J.R.’s old band) is now working there. We hadn’t seen him in quite a while so that was nice. (I think the formation of this new band has allowed me to put all the bad feelings about Moral Dilemma behind me.) The show started shortly after 10:30. It wasn’t promoted because this was kind of a practice show just so they could play together onstage before some bigger upcoming shows. There was still quite a turnout for them though which was cool to see. Aura only has 4 original songs at this point so they did those plus 4 cover songs. Guess what the very first song Aura ever played live was?? Little Things! That’s got to be a good sign, right? ! It was a great show. It was the first time I’d heard all the original songs in their entirety and I was really impressed. It’s fun to watch Miller sing cause he’s very facially expressive (especially his eyes) plus he’s got a great voice. The other covers that they did were The Warmth (Incubus), Bulls on Parade (RATM) and Stinkfist (Tool) all of which sounded awesome. After the show, we’d planned to go back to Miller’s house and have a little party. For some reason, Paco (other guitar player) left the venue as soon as the show was over so he wasn’t at Miller’s. David’s girlfriend, Kat, didn’t want to stay so they left after the equipment was unloaded. Then Chris found out that we weren’t going to analyze the video that was taken of the show so he left. So the party consisted of Miller, his fiancee Jen, J.R. and myself, lol. We smoked out of his huge 4 hose hookah and talked for a while. Then we decided what could be better than the fucked up four of us playing Jenga?! Haha! We had a lot of fun. We didn’t get home til around 4am. It was the first time I’d ever really hung out with Miller and the first time I’d ever met Jen. The 2 of them and the 2 of us have A LOT of stuff in common, so now I’m even more excited about this band and what’s to come. Apparently Miller has a show lined up at The Cellar at the end of April and the owners are giving them a bunch of money for promoting and radio advertising since his old band (Alias X) always sold the place out. Oh, that reminds me! The asshole Alias X guys were at the show on Saturday...pathetic really. As much as I hate sitting around in bars, I’ve really missed being out in the music scene. It was nice to be back.

On Sunday, T-mobile had their regional quarterly event in Cleveland. We got all dressed up and met Rossi and Christina (people J.R. works with) at the store so we could all ride together. The weather was horrible...snow, sleet, hail. So what do we do? Drive north into the lake effect snow. Smart. It took us 2 hours to get there, where it normally only takes an hour or so. We saw 10-15 wrecks on the highway as we were driving. I was extremely freaked out. The place they held the event was really nice. They had a lot of catered food, a dance floor, and casino games (since this was a las vegas themed party). The chips that were won got cashed in for raffle tickets for all the prizes they gave away. We didn’t win shit. The majority of the night was extremely boring since this was a work gathering and I hardly knew anyone. Plus, I can’t stand the one guy, Rossi, that we rode with. It gave me an excuse to buy new clothes and dress up though, lol. By the time we left, the salt trucks had done their job and the roads were much clearer. I think we got home around midnight.

Not too much going on today. I’m tired.
