More Changes!

Alright, a long-neglected update at last.

First off, I wanted to share that I had a lot of fun visiting Ngeran, and wouldn't mind doing that again sometime in the future. :)

Secondly, I made it back to see my friends in California for a convention, hanging out with thunderdrake4k, prodigaltam, others that aren't on LJ, and more briefly with amichele2. It was a blast, and I'm glad I made the trip over there. My flight was even trouble-free this time. :)

And thirdly, my job has changed again, but this time for the better. While I was previously supporting about a half-dozen clients over the course of a week, a pair of them that are merging needed someone full-time, and they hired me through my consulting firm. So I still work for the same company, but without driving around town all the time every week. I'm actually being nudged into more of a management than PC support position, which I'm okay with - it's not something I've done before, and it's invaluable experience.

Of course, they're trying to complete the merger with the two companies by the end of the year, so there are days where I feel like I'm treading water up to my eyeballs, but things are improving. It only felt neck-deep last Friday. ;)

Fourthly (now I'm just making these words up), I adopted a cat today!

I'd been thinking about it for a while, as had my parents, so today we both went over to the local humane society, and looked around, and we both adopted one. The fact that they had a two-for-one special until the end of the year made that even more appealing.

Now, I was looking for a slightly older cat, as I wouldn't have the proper time to raise a kitten, and I also wanted a more established personality to judge. My parents were looking for something more of a kitten in age, as they have more time than I do.

I picked mine out fairly quickly, which surprised me. My parents had... oh, I think as many as five different adoption cards in their hands at one point, and finally picked out a 9-week old male kitten that loved them right away.

When we were filling out the paperwork, we learned something else surprising. My cat had had kittens about two months ago, and was still showing some signs of nursing, although she had been seperated from her kittens some time ago.

The kitten my parents adopted... was the son of my cat! Absolute coincidence! The Humane Society representative was thrilled. She hadn't even known that the cats were related until she started filling out the paperwork. So it shouldn't be so bad if I'm watching their kitten here if they go on trips, or if mine heads over to their place if I go on another CA trip, since they'll know each other.

If only I had that kind of amazing luck when playing the lottery. =)

No photos yet, though - they both have to have their 'no more kittens' surgery, as well as being microchipped and related requirements, so I'll be taking mine home on Monday. That gives me just enough time to get my house a little more cat-safe. At least I already bought all of the starting gear I'm going to need.

I think that wraps this little update up!
