The Mystery of Signs

Sep 23, 2007 22:06

I mentioned that someone had stolen my security sign a little while back.

Upon returning from a trip out of town, I was checking my front yard for debris, and found what appeared to be the same sign, face-down and lying against one of the bushes.

Now, I looked pretty thoroughly when it first went missing, but I still wondered if I'd been that blind. I also allowed for the possibility that it was taken out by high winds, except there really haven't been any lately, and its position next to my house, and that the post was buried several inches deep, made that unlikely.

However, I got caught up with doing other things, and by the time I remembered the sign was still outside, it was late, so I instead went to pick it up this morning.

It was indeed a security sign.

The wrong security sign.

Yes. I had lost my sign, and found one for an entirely different security company, lying face-down in my front yard. This would indicate that mine was correctly stolen, but possibly by the work of kids rather than active maliciousness.

But where did this new sign come from, and who put it there?

So now I have a new sign for a different company, but I'm reluctant to put it up, since it's not for the same company. It would add to the impression that perhaps my house wasn't alarmed at all.

Mys-teer-ious.
