Just got news that my friend LH's mom died today. She was my best friend in high school and my roommate during my first year of college. We still keep in touch every time she visits Florida. I knew her mom had been battling cancer for several years now, and the prognosis was not good. But you never expect these things.

Phuong's been my best friend for 10 years. Her mom passed away two years ago.
Karen was my best friend in middle school. She's still one of my closest friends to this day. Her mom passed away 6 years ago.

I'm starting to feel as though I'm the common link here.

Watched my first code blue in the ER yesterday. My attending was so....nonchalant (?) while he was running the code. He's a big guy who's incredibly soft spoken and pleasant. He was so soft spoken and pleasant that I wasn't even aware that he was the team lead until several minutes in. The noise of the ER drowned him out, but I suppose the code team knew him well enough to listen. He wandered (so it appeared to me) around the room occasionally calling out instructions to the team while teaching us. "See this person's toes? They aren't too blue. Usually they are. I think I'll feel for a pulse now. How much atropine have we pushed?" It was second nature to him. Five students were crowded in the room watching the team work. We filed out quietly after the time of death was called. They worked on him for 45 minutes. The attending made me go with him to talk to the family.

I want to give my grandma and my parents a hug today.

pa school, friends
