March 1,2009…6:30 pm…

“When are you going to say yes to him?” Utami asked for the 3rd time tonight.

Since Changmin’s birthday, Utami, Chie, and Misaki haven’t stopped pestering me about when I would say ‘yes’ to Changmin.

“I still haven’t decided yet. I already told you guys that I still want to ride on the good relationship I have now with my father before I get into another one.”

Since my attempted ‘failed’ suicide where some of what I said opened my father’s eyes to how I felt most of the time especially towards the course I was taking, my relationship with him took a good turn.

“But your father likes him.” Utami protested.

“True.” I said.

“When? When? When?” Misaki asked.

“Hmm? Maybe tomorrow?” I said, grinning at them.

Their mouths dropped open in surprise.

“Seriously?” Chie asked.

“Well if you don’t want, I could always postpone it until next school year.” I said.

“Baka! Tomorrow! You can’t take back what you just said.

I laughed heartily at their excited faces.

March 2, 2009, 5:17 pm…

“Where are we going?” Changmin asked.

“The mall. I want to play.”

“Play?”

“Uhuh. I missed Dead or Alive, and kicking your butt at it.” I said with a wide grin.

He scoffed. “Not this time. I practiced during my free time.”

“Yeah, right. I’ll still win.”

“You seem so sure.”

“Of course I am.” I said as I hailed a taxi.

When we arrived at the mall I headed in the direction of Mama Mia’s, a fast-food chain that specializes in Mexican food.

“What are we doing here? I thought you wanted to play.” He asked.

I turned to him and looked at my watch.

I counted. “4, 3, 2, and 1.” Right on cue, his stomach growled.

I looked at him straight in the eye and smirked, “That’s why we’re here.” I then turned to the counter and gave our order since it was our turn.

We sat down at a table at one corner and began eating. No one spoke for about 2 minutes. When he had downed his first Burito he broke the silence.

“What made you want to play today?”

“Nothing really, I just felt like it.”

After eating, we went to the arcade and hogged the Dead or Alive machine. The two of us had three wins and three losses each. On our seventh and last game, when my character had already lost half of her life and his still hadn’t lost any, I leaned close to his ear and whispered, “The answer is YES.”

***

‘The answer is YES.’ Aline’s words were still ringing in my ears. The meaning behind those words immediately sunk into my consciousness and made me lose my concentration.  By the time I was able to regain my thoughts, the screen was already flashing the words announcing Aline had won.

“I win.” She said, smiling triumphantly at me.

I just stared at her.

“Hellloooo!” She said, waving her hand in front of my face. She pouted when I just continued to stare at her. She took out her mobile phone and took who knows how many pictures of me while I was still dazed.

I shook my head and tried to scattered wits again as she kept her phone.

“Come on.” She said, pulling me to my feet.

“I want to buy snacks for later in case I get hungry while studying.” She said as we walked out of the arcade.

A few feet away from the entrance of the grocery, I stopped walking and swung her around gently to face me.

“Yes, as in yes you’d be my girlfriend?” I asked, wanting to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood.

“Uh, duh. What else do you think it means?” She replied.

I felt indescribable joy spreading from my chest to my entire body. I gave out a loud whoop of joy, unable to help myself. Suddenly she got out of my hold and went inside the grocery.

After seeing that people were looking at me with confused and weird looks on their faces, I went after her feeling slightly embarrassed. I found her in the cookies section. I hugged her from behind when I reached her. She jabbed me in the stomach with her elbow.

“Oof.”

“Stop it Min, we’re in a public place.” She admonished.

I smiled, let go of her, and nursed my hurt tummy. I took the basket she was holding from her and held her hand, intertwining our fingers.

After that fateful day, we weren’t able to see much of each other. We each had requirements to fulfill, not to mention the upcoming final exams. But still, we saw each other as often as we could. Sometimes we’d eat lunch or dinner together. Occasionally, she and Yoochun-hyung would hang out. I don’t see hyung as a threat to our relationship anymore since both of them had made it clear to me that now they would just be best friends.

On my graduation day, Aline was with me; more like she was fussing over me, checking my hair and clothes, making sure I looked good. She looked pretty amazing herself in a simple lavender off-shoulder dress. The simplicity of the dress made her beauty stand out.

My family was late because their flight was delayed, so I introduced her to them when the graduation ceremony was over; and in turn she introduced me to them.

For lunch, we headed straight to ‘SPELL’, Jaejoong and Yunho-hyung’s restaurant, where Jaejoong-hyung prepared a feast, buffet style. Formal introductions between our families were made before lunch started. As lunch came to an end, I asked Aline’s parent’s for permission if she could come with me this May to Europe. I assured them that we’d only be gone for three weeks. Her parents looked at each other, while we waited tensely for their reply.

“It’s fine with me.” Her mother said.

We turned to her father.

“Hmm… I’m not sure.” He said.

“Consider it.” My father said, “He’s been saving money so he could take her with him for their summer vacation. The trip to Europe was our gift for him, but we’ll be glad to add a bit more money so they can have a good time together. We’ve never seen him this happy before, and your daughter is all he talked about over the phone when we called to say we were coming.”

“Hmm. Well, okay. But on one condition, we’ll put some money for the trip too.” Her father said.

“Yes!” I whispered loudly.

***

Changmin’s smile was priceless when my father agreed. While our parents continued talking, Changmin took me to a secluded corner of the garden at the back of the restaurant. He sat down on the grass with his back resting on a tree and pulled me down to sit between his legs.

When I rested my head on his chest, I felt something hard and circular in form. I turned to face him and reached for his neck where I saw the chain of a white-gold necklace. I took hold of the chain and slowly pulled out the necklace from his shirt. My mind went blank for a moment as I stared at the pendant.

“It’s the necklace I gave you last Christmas.” I said as I looked up at him, a warm feeling of joy spread throughout my body at the realization.

He smiled at me, brushing aside a few strands of hair covering my face before he drew his attention to my neck. He lightly traced the chain of the necklace I was wearing. Like his, it was white-gold.

“Hmmm.” He said. “This chain seems very familiar.”

He hooked his finger on the chain and gently pulled my necklace out.

He gasped. “It’s the necklace I gave you last Christmas.” He said in mock surprise.

I hit him playfully on the chest and laughed along with him.

“Look.” He said.

I looked at his hand which held the pendants of our necklaces and watched as he joined both. (add description of necklaces)

“We’re really meant for each other.” He stated.

“Why do you think so?” I asked, looking him straight in the eye.

“Well, for one thing, we bought these necklaces a good half an hour apart, and I the temperature of my body seems to rise whenever I’m with you and I’m quite certain the same thing goes for you.” He said, his face getting closer to mine. I could feel his hot breath from my lips to my neck. I was slowly leaning away but he wouldn’t have it. He caught me by my shoulder and held me in place as he continued leaning closer to me until our foreheads touched and our lips were mere centimeters apart.

“So arrogant of you to think so.” I said.

He smirked, “Oh, I wasn’t thinking. I was merely stating a fact.”

His kissed the tip of my nose before he lightly brushed his lips on mine. He brushed his lips on mine again, and again, and again, before fully covering my mouth with his. He licked my lower lip and sucked on it before he slipped his tongue in my mouth. When I started to respond, he withdrew, made his way to my left ear and licked the area just behind my ear. I shivered in reaction. I tried to turn my head in the direction of his mouth, but before I could fully turn he dug his free hand into my hair and grasped a handful of it. He pulled my head back gently until my throat was fully exposed to him. He kissed, licked, nibbled, and sucked on my throat, careful not to leave a mark. A tingling sensation crept up my spine.

“Say it.” He said between kisses.

My mind was in chaos, making logical thought almost impossible.

“What?” I asked, breathing hard now.

“That you get hot when you’re around me.”

I shook my head in denial, and then gasped when I felt his hand on my breast, caressing me through my clothes.

I grasped his hand to stop him, but in one swift move it was my hand that was trapped now. He placed it on his chest, making me grasp a handful of his shirt tight when his hand went back to my brest again.

“Say it.” He ordered again as he stared at me, willing me to say the words.

“Fine. I get hot when I’m around you.” I said before I grasped his neck to pull him toward so I could kiss him.

***

I growled softly in victory as our lips touched. Her tongue slipped into my mouth, coaxing mine to play with hers. I wanted her to sit on my lap straddling me, but since she was wearing a dress I laid her down and laid half on top of her instead, never breaking our kiss as I did so. I wrapped my right arm around her waist and pulled her closer to me.

Our make-out session lasted for about three more minutes before…

“Knock Knock. You two should stop now; her parents will be looking for her any minute.” Someone said.

Our lips parted and we stared into each others eyes when…

“Uhum. Min, Lin-chan. Snap out of it.” Yoochun-hyung commanded.

I started to sit up, but stopped midway when I noticed that our necklaces were still joined. We looked at each other and laughed softly before she freed our necklaces and I helped her up.

Once up, we straightened our clothes and fixed our hair.

“Lin-chan...” Yoochun-hyung broke the silence.

“Hmm?” She answered.

“How come we never did something like that when we were boyfriend-girlfriend?” He asked.

We looked at him and saw that he was pouting like a kid. We both burst out laughing.

“Yah! I’m serious here.” He said, stomping his feet.

“Because the two of you were only meant to be best friends and we were meant to be more.” I answered, putting a possessive arm around her shoulder.

Hyung merely smiled at my answer, and then together we went back inside to join the others.
