“Wake up. Oi! Aline, wake up! It’s already 8:30!” Chie said as she shook me to wake up.
“Mmm. Five more minutes mom.” I said.
“Don’t ‘five more minutes’ mom’ me because I am not your mother. Now get up.”
“What’s the occasion anyway? I still want to sleep.”
“Changmin’s picking you up at ten, isn’t he?” Utami asked.
“Uhuh.”
“So it’s time for you to get ready.”
“It’s still an hour and a half from now.” I complained.
“Exactly. I think that’s about enough time for you to get ready.” Misaki said.
“What should she wear Chie?” Utami asked Chie.
“I like this white blouse with the plunging neckline.” Misaki said.
All three of them were in front of my closet, trying to decide what I should wear for my date with Changmin. It’s the third day since my failed suicide and everyone is just trying to forget it ever happened.
“Guys, sorry to burst you bubble. But apparently, Min, bought me something to wear for today.” I informed them.
“What?! Where?” They asked simultaneously.
“There in that box.” I pointed to a box on our table. “I didn’t get a chance to open it last night because I was too tired.”
Before I finished talking, they already had the box open and its contents out.
“Wow!” They exclaimed.
The box contained a purple sleeveless turtleneck, faded skinny jeans, and silver sandals with stiletto heels.
Utami came toward me and pulled me up suddenly.
“Bath. Now.” She said.
“Sheesh, you sound like my grandmother.” I said. “I don’t want to take a bath yet. I still want to sleep.”
I was about to lie back down on my bed when Chie came toward me, pulled me straight out of the room, into the bathroom, and turned on the shower once I was inside one of the cubicles.
“Aah! Alright already.” I said as I quickly turned off the shower before my pajamas could get really soaked.
“Here Aline.” Misaki said, handing me my toiletries, and my towel. “Don’t take too long.” She added before going back to our room.
For the next hour, the three of them fussed over me.
10:00 am…
Knock...Knock...Knock
“Yes?” Misaki answered the door.
“Someone’s looking for Miss Tateishi.” One of our dorm staff informed us.
“She’ll be right down.” Misaki answered and closed the door. “He’s here. He’s here.”
“Okay. Picture first, before you go down.” Utami said to me.
“You guys are more excited about this date than I am.” I said.
“Of course. This is your first Valentine’s day date with Changmin after all.” Chie said.
I rolled my eyes. Honestly, when they get started like this, there is no stopping them.
“I’m going down now before his hair turns white while waiting for me.”
“Don’t deny it Aline, you’re excited and can’t wait to see him.” Misaki said excitedly.
“Fine.” I said, giving in. “I’m excited and can’t wait to see him. Can I go now?”
“Let’s go!” Utami shouted.

“Hurry up.” I heard someone say.
“You guys want me to trip or something? I heard Aline say to whoever was with her.
A few moments later, she emerged from the door with her roommates in tow. Sigh. I should have known it was them who were pestering her.
“Hi Min.” She greeted when she spotted me. She looked absolutely gorgeous in the top Jaejoong-hyung helped me pick; pants Yoochun-hyung picked; and in the sandals Yunho-hyung insisted I pick.
“You look, amazing.” I told her, grinning from ear to ear.
“You don’t look so bad yourself.”
“Shall we?” I said, when I was in front of her, and offered her my elbow.
She smiled as she accepted my offer.
“Bye girls.” We said in unison. We looked at each other and laughed, then said, “We seem to be synchronized.” at the same time.
“Wait.” Utami shouted before we could really leave. “We have to take a picture of you guys first while you still look fresh.”
“We’re not fish Utami.” Aline said.
“Ah, whatever. You know what I mean.” She replied.
After 10 or so pictures, we were finally able to leave.

The first thing we did for today was have brunch at Jaejoong and Yunho senpai’s restaurant. Afterwards we went to watch Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Then we went to RockyMountain, an amusement park, and knocked ourselves out trying out almost all the games and rides.
At a shooting booth, Changmin won me a huge teddy bear which I named after him. For dinner, we went to a restaurant that specializes in seafood.
Since the restaurant was located on a beach, we walked along the shallow part of the water holding hands.
I took a deep breath. Sigh. The night sea air is so refreshing, and the water is nice and cold.
“Aah!” I screamed as seawater hit me square on the face. I heard Changmin laughing a few feet away from me, he had let go of my hand when I screamed. I ran after him.
“Come back here.”
“No way.”
“Fine. I’m going home.” I said, and then turned back in the direction we came from. I had only taken about ten steps when I was suddenly lifted into the air.
“You’re a spoiled sport. Do you know that?” Changmin chided.
“No. Put me down.” When he complied, I immediately bent down to scoop some water to throw at him; it hit him square on the face.
“You…You…” He stuttered.
I ran off before he could retaliate, but since he was taller than me and had longer legs, he caught up easily.
He hugged me from behind, lifted me up, and swung me round and round. I screamed and then laughed along with him.
“Min, enough, I’m getting nauseous.” I complained.
When he stopped, he was just able to get us to the shore before we both collapsed from dizziness.
When our world had stopped spinning, we got up and made our way back to the road outside the restaurant to wait for a taxi.
Before saying goodbye for the day, he gave me a goodnight kiss and then left for home.

“Al, are you busy tonight?” Changmin asked in the middle of our meal.
“Yeah, why?”
“Ummm. How about this afternoon after class?”
“Yup, I’ve got a case to work on for my finance.”
“Oh, okay.”
“Why?”
“Umm. I just wanted to hang out, that’s all.”
“Okay. Can we hang out some other time? I’m really busy these days.”
“Um, sure.”
“Okay. Well, gotta go now. Can’t be late for class. Bye.” I took a last gulp of water before hurrying off to class.

Crap! It’s my birthday, and today had to be the day that Aline had to be so busy. And what’s worse is that she totally forgot. Not a single greeting from her.
It’s already been a week since her birthday. I’ve continued to court her, but she still hasn’t given me an answer. Sure, we’ve kissed a lot of times, but it’s different or it would be if she already said yes.
Sigh. I hoped that I’d get to spend my birthday with her, but I guess it’s not meant to be.
5:00 pm… At the front gate…
“Yo Min!”
I turned to the person calling me, but I can’t seem to find him through the throng of people coming out of the gate.
“Yah!” Someone said, hitting me on the head as he said it.
“Ow! Hyung, that hurt.” I complained as I saw it was Junsu-hyung.
“You going somewhere?”
“I wish.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? And where’s Aline?”
“Well she had something to do, so um, nope, I’m not going anywhere.”
“Oh. Well then, you’re coming with me.” He said, and then pulled me in to his car.
“Get in.” He said.
“Wait hyung. Where are we going?”
“Mall. Arcade. My treat.” Was all he said before he got in the driver’s seat.
‘Arcade? His treat? For real?’ I thought as I got in the front seat. We sped off and played arcade for an hour and a half.
We were concentrating on kicking each other’s butt on a Tekken5 machine when…Junsu’s phone rang.
“Yobseoyo.” He answered, not taking his eyes off the screen.
“YAH! WHERE ARE YOU TWO?!” Hyung winced and held the phone away from his ear. The caller’s voice was so loud, even I could hear it.
“We’re still playing at the - Damn! Now look, hyung. Changmin won.”
“Yah! It wasn’t because of the phone call that I won.” I said indignantly.
Hyung continued his call while I played another round. I got distracted and lost when he suddenly hit me on the shoulder and said it was time to go.
“The game was almost finished hyung, why’d you have to distract me at the last minute?” I complained.
“Never mind. At least we’re even now.” He said, then laughed at the face I made.
When we arrived at our apartment, a furious Jaejoong was waiting for us.
“So, you finally decided it was time to come home.” He said.
Junsu-hyung and I looked at each other but didn’t say anything. We didn’t dare to when he was as angry as he is right now. He could lecture us for hours and hours if we did.
Yunho-hyung came to stand beside Jaejoong-hyung, and put a hand on the latter’s shoulder.
“Now, now Jae. Calm down. Dinner is not going to get cold. They’re here now and we just finished cooking, so no worries.” Yunho-hyung said.
Jaejoong-hyung took a deep calming breath and said, “You’re right. Chun?”
Yoochun-hyung peeked from the kitchen door and asked, “Did the dragon calm down already?”
“Haha. Very funny.” Jaejoong-hyung replied, and then motioned to me. Yoochun-hyung nodded, walked toward me and motioned for me to turn around.
“What for?” I asked.
“Just shut up and turn around.”
I’m not sure what kind of surprise they had for me, but I complied anyway. Yoochun-hyung placed a blindfold on me.
They led me to the dining room, I think, and then left me sitting on one of the chairs. I could hear them moving around and placing plates on the table. They sang the happy birthday song for me, their voices blending harmoniously.
When the song ended, I felt someone hug me from behind. The person placed his chin on my shoulder, kissed my cheek, and then whispered in my ear.
“Happy Birthday Min.”
‘Aline!’ I thought. It wasn’t one of my hyungs who hugged me! It was Aline!
I quickly took off the blindfold and turned in my seat, just enough to see her face and not dislodge her hold. She smiled and said, “Surprise!” then looked forward. I followed her gaze and saw that her roommates were also present.
“Happy Birthday!” They greeted.
“Okay! Let’s eat.” Yunho-hyung said.
We ate, chatted, and played games for the rest of the night. At 11:30 pm, Yunho-hyung took Aline and her roommates back to their dormitory.
As I lay in bed, I thought ‘This is the best birthday
I’ve had, as of yet.’
