“Mmmm.” Misaki moaned, closing her eyes as she chewed on her omelet rice.
“Is it really that good?” Someone asked her from behind.
Misaki opened her eyes to look at the person who spoke. “Hai, Haru-chan! Oishii-desu.”
“Let me taste.” Chiharu said, sitting down on the vacant seat beside Misaki. Misaki spoon-fed Chiharu some of her omelet rice.
“Mmmm. Oishii.” Chiharu sighed as she chewed. “Is there anything else good here?”
“All of the food here is good.”
“Hontou?” Chiharu called for a waiter to give her a menu. She was busy scanning it when her husband Changmin arrived.
“Changmin daijoubu?” Misaki asked when she saw he was sweating profusely.
Changmin nodded in response, he was still breathless from running. He’d just returned from running around every shop in the land looking for kiwi. He had a hard time finding it since it wasn’t the season for kiwi.
“I finally found some.” He announced to his wife, putting the bag of kiwi on the table before sitting down next to her.
“I don’t want to eat that anymore.” Chiharu said.
“EH?!”
“Gomen Min.” She said apologetically.
“Well, what do you want to eat now?”
Chiharu pointed at Misaki’s plate, “I want omelet rice.”
Changmin sighed, called for a waiter and ordered two servings of omelet rice.
While waiting for their food, Jaejoong, who heard the whole conversation of the three from the time Changmin arrived stared at them with a thoughtful expression on his face. He looked at the sweating Changmin, the girl he sat beside with, and the bag of kiwi on the table.
That woman is quite insensitive. Asking that man to buy kiwi for her in this season and the not wanting to eat it.
“It’s none of your business Jae.” Hyunjoong whispered to Jae. Jaejoong frowned at his sous chef.
“Who gave you permission to read my mind.”
Hyunjoong raised his arms in surrender. “Hey, I didn’t have to, it was written all over your face.”
Jaejoong faced the three again, “I wanna do something for that guy, so that his effort of finding those kiwi won’t be in vain.” He didn’t wait around for whatever Hyunjoong might say and headed for the kitchen, thinking up of the ingredients he might need.

“Thank you for waiting .” The waiter said, as he placed the plates of omelet rice in front of Chiharu and Changmin.
“Ah, can I have a glass of water please?” Misaki asked the waiter politely.
“Mochiro. I’ll be right back.”
While Changmin and Chiharu ate their food, Jaejoong approached them.
“Um, excuse me.” He said.
“Yes?” Misaki answered, seeing as her companions were currently unable to answer.
“Boku-wa Kim Jaejoong desu. I’m the head chef and co-owner of this restaurant. How’s the food?”
“Oishi desu. But I especially love your omelet rice.”
“Ah sou. I’m glad to hear that. Anyway, sorry for being nosey but I couldn’t help but overhear earlier that Mr?” He said as he face Changmin.
“Shim Changmin.” Changmin answered.
“Shim-sama here brought some kiwi’s?”
“Ah, hai. My wife…” Changmin began, motioning to Chiharu. “…has been having very random cravings because of her pregnancy. I try to do my best to give her whatever it is she is currently craving.”
Ah, that explains it. Well, I might to the same when the time comes; which reminds me, my betrothed’s 21st birthday is two weeks away. Anyway…
“Can I take a peek at the kiwi you bought?”
“Ah, sure.” Changmin said, handing them to Jaejoong.
Jaejoong’s eyes widen when he saw the high quality kiwi. “Where did you get these?”
“Ah, at Misaki’s house.” He answered, pointing at Misaki. “It was the last place I went to. I should have thought of it in the first place.”
“Oh, those are my kiwi? Misaki asked.
“Hai, you’re mom let me pick some.”
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to make something for you guys with the kiwi.”
“Baby?” Changmin faced his wife.
“Sure, no problem.”
“I’ll be back.”
Jaejoong returned after five minutes, presenting them with a masterpiece of a dessert. It looked like a forest, a forest during winter. With various fruits, chocolates, and candy standing as the trees and bushes; yogurt and vanilla ice cream as snow.
“Ureshii.” Misaki sighed. Changmin and Chiharu nodded.
“Those bushes are made up of the kiwi.” Jaejoong said. “And some of the leaves of the trees and the other bushes are green mango. So, dig in.”
The three picked up their spoons and tasted the masterpiece.
“Oishii.” They said in unison.
“Arigatou.” Chiharu said to Jaejoong, before facing Changmin and giving him a kiss as thanks for the kiwi.
Jaejoong was happy that even though what he made for them was pretty simple, it gave them happiness. He was happy when someone was happy with the food he made. Jaejoong’s attention was then riveted to the other girl with them. She had the most beautiful green eyes he’d ever seen. She was a regular in his restaurant but he’d never really noticed, really noticed her until now.
Misaki turned her head to the chef, feeling his stare on her. She felt herself blush at the intensity of his stare. It took Jaejoong a moment to register that she was looking at him now, her cheeks a bit red. He felt himself redden as he realized she caught him staring at him. He couldn’t help himself, she was breathtaking. She wasn’t like those model faeries he’d dated before. She looked so innocent, yet intelligence sparkled in her eyes.
Three days later…
“And the dessert was fabulous. It was made out of-“
“Hai, hai… that’s all you’ve been talking about for days now.” Kaoru cut Misaki off.
“Yeah, and Chiharu said the chef was hot. Why aren’t you talking about him, just about his food.” Rui said.
Misaki bowed her head, but not before Utami saw her blush.
“Ah, so you do think he’s hot. You’re just trying not to think about him.” Utami said.
“Well, I am about to meet my betrothed. I just don’t want any distractions.” Misaki said.
“But, he’d be a very nice distraction, wouldn’t he?”
“Whatever.”
Misaki’s birthday…Jaejoong’s restaurant…
“What are you making?” Hyunjoong asked.
“My favorite. Omelet rice.” Jaejoong answered. ‘It’s also what that girl with the pretty green eyes always ordered.’ He thought to himself.
“For your betrothed?”
“Yup.” Maybe it’s someone like her.
“Shouldn’t you make something more…flashy? I mean, omelet rice is so…simple.”
“So? It’s my favorite and simple. I want to give her something that represents home. Comfortable and wonderful without all the show.”
“Giving messages with your food again.”
“Of course. I’m a chef.”
Hyunjoong shook his head. “If there’s something other than cooking that you do best, it’s sending messages with your food.”
“I know.” Jaejoong replied simply.
“Cocky bastard.” Hyunjoong chuckled.
Misaki’s house…
“Ne ne, Misaki-chan. You’re excited, aren’t you?” Kaoru asked, elbowing Misaki gently.
“Uhuh.” Misaki answered, eyes all aglow. “I hope he’s as good a cook as Jaejoong.”
“Jaejoong?” Utami asked.
“The hot chef and co-owner of ‘Hero’s’.” Chiharu answered.
“Ah, so you do think about him. You even remember his name, which is rare for you by the way, for someone you only met once.” Rui stated.
Misaki blushed. “I-I-I-I-I-I…He’s a good cook, that’s why I remember him.”
“If that’s the only reason, then why are you blushing?” Kaoru stated, sniggering.
“Surely it’s not because he has such a beautiful face and very nice physique and that you’re actually attracted to him, is it? Or because the two of you had a fifteen minute staring contest?” Chiharu added.
“M-maybe.”
“Whatever. Come on guys, we have only a few more minutes left before the groom’s family arrives.” Utami said.
“Ah, souka. Come on.” Kaoru agreed.
The four friends gathered in the middle of Misaki’s room. With a wave of her hand, Chiharu created a ball made of ice, the size of a volleyball. Next Kaoru placed some orange flames inside the ball, filling about half of it. Then Rui, placed a particularly cold wind inside the ball. Utami and Chiharu faced each other. Chiharu closed her palm, and when she opened them, there were little ice seedlings inside. Utami placed her palm over Chiharu’s for a moment, wherein light erupted from her palm, going into the seedlings. Chiharu then, placed them inside the ball, in the middle of the flames.
“Your turn Misaki-chan.” Rui called.
“What am I supposed to do?” Misaki asked.
“See those little seedlings in the fire?” Chiharu asked.
Misaki nodded.
“Make them grow.”
Misaki smiled and waved her hand over the ball. Little sparkling green lights went into the seedlings, slowling making them grow into different kinds of flowers made of ice. The flames Chie made, allowed the different colors Utami put in to reflect from the petals and the wind Rui put in, controlled the temperature inside so that the flowers didn’t melt.
“If the flowers melt away, they just turn back into seeds. You can just make them grow again.” Chiharu explained.
“Hai.” Misaki said. She extended her arms in the direction of her window. A branch from the tree outside snaked into her room. She tore of a leaf and turned it into a stand for their gift, soft yet sturdy.
“Arigatou, minna.”
“Douitashimashte. Happy Birthday Misa-chan.” They answered in unison.
“Onee-chan, time to get ready.” Misaki’s little brother called.
“Hai.”
“So, we better get going.” Rui said. They all hugged her and got out through her window.
Misaki then changed into the dress her mother prepared for today; a pink sleeveless chiffon dress that reached just above her knees, with an apple green sash at her waist. Her brother came to call her that it was time to go outside just as she finished fixing her hair. She then went down and waited outside her home with her family for her betrothed.
Jaejoong and his family were very near his betrothed’s house. It was a good thing that his older sister, the one who was an air faerie came with them otherwise his present for his betrothed might be a mess now. His sister kept his omelet rice in a ball of air in the perfect temperature for it to taste the best.
When they landed in front of Misaki’s house, he greeted his future mother-in-law and father-in-law first before facing his betrothed.
Misaki stood almost frozen in awe and excitement, when she recognized her betrothed as the chef of her favorite restaurant.
Meanwhile, Jaejoong blinked his eyes, once, twice, making sure he wasn’t imagining things. It’s her. Jaejoong felt his mother nudged him in the direction of his betrothed.
“Boku-wa Kim Jaejoong desu. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.” He said when he was in front of her.
“Watashi-wa Saionji Misaki desu. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.” She replied smiling.
“Onee-san.” Jaejoong called, turning to his sister.
Getting the message, Jaejoong’s sister handed him his gift.
“For you.” Jaejoong said, handing Misaki his gift.
“Omelet rice?” Misaki asked, beaming. She immediately took the spoon Jaejoong had also provided and tried the omelet rice. “Oishii, this is my favorite, but its tastes a bit different from what I usually eat in your restaurant. Different in a good tasty way, it has a very homey taste, making me feel like I’d come home from a long journey.”
“I added a little something extra. Happy Birthday.”
“It’s a good thing she doesn’t get fat even when she eats so much.” Her little brother commented, making her blush in embarrassment.
Jaejoong found her blush quite becoming. “I like a girl with a healthy appetite. After all I am a chef.” He spoon-fed her some more of his omelet rice and had a helping of it himself.
There is magic in the way these betrothals go. Misaki thought. Who would have thought that the cook of the food that she loved so much would be her betrothed.
