I made my costume out of a strapless dress I found at a used clothing store, some posterboard for the triangle, and some sparkly silver fabric from a fabric store. I used velcro to keep the triangle on and safety pins for the bottom triangle. I got the tights online and the hairbow is from H&M. The gloves were from Spirit.
The costume is pretty jankity, and one of my 5th grade boys actually fell to the floor laughing when I told him I was Lady Gaga (he hates her, and Miley Cyrus).
We had a Halloween parade for the kids on Friday. Then on Saturday Ian and I went to Alameda to get sushi and see Brenda, Maria, Myisha, Maria's boyfriend Lowell, and Brenda's friend Johnathan.
Pictures of the costume are behind the cut.
This photo was taken at Montclair Elementary where I student teach 5th grade. My camera broke and my camera phone doesn't hook up to a computer, so I used Photo Booth on my laptop. This is what my costume looked like; obviously I made it myself.
The kids looked awesome, but common sense tells me there are definite rules against taking pictures of one's students and posting them on the interwebs.
And yes, I wore a tee-shirt under my strapless dress, since I'm also pretty sure there's also a rule about the amount of skin elementary school teachers are allowed to show.
And then I fell down.
This is a close-up of what my make-up looked like. My fake eyelashes were basically being held on by the power of hopes and dreams.
The camera went off right as I realized I was stepping on some kid's state project.
I went to Alameda to see Brenda, Myisha, and Maria. Myisha took this picture with her iPhone. Apparently platinum blonde wigs are all sold out the night before Halloween. Who knew. As a result, my H&M hairbow looks really stupid.
Monster claws!
