The post I always want to make when I'm compiling
inceptiondaily or
dotcoms_refresh:
Dear Fandom,
Non-custom comment pages are your friend! Please please please use them, or use a layout with readable-sized dark (preferably black) text on a light background.
I appreciate that you like your bright blue layout with tiny size pink text (not an actual layout I've seen, thank god), but how do you expect me to read any substantial blocks of text that look like that? Hell, how do you read your flist? I know I can style=mine, and I always do (♥style=mine bookmarklet♥), but when I have to style=mine your post just to figure out how to tag it for the newsletter, it makes me not want to link it at all.
Some people have eye problems that make your light colored text on a slightly darker background unreadable. Contrast is your friend. Although, I will say that black background with white text is fine by me. It's readable, and is actually better for you if you read in dim lighting or the dark. But the number one rule of getting people to read your posts, fic or otherwise, is to make them readable. And, hey, when you use non-custom comment pages, you can still enjoy your layout on your flist; it doesn't go away or anything! And if you want other people to see your shiny new layout, tell them about it and maybe they'll go look. Forcing unreadable layouts on people is the quickest way to get them not to read your fic, or skip past your entries.
If you want to use the standard/non-custom comment pages, and can't figure out how to change it on your layout, just go to the
Customize Journal Style page (Journal --> Journal Style --> Customize Selected Theme), scroll down, and select 'Yes' in the dropdown box next to 'Disable customized comment pages for your journal '. And there you go!
This has been your public service announcement for the day.

On a totally different subject, what the actual fuck (pun only mildly intended) is
this video for "Bang", Empires? Seriously, IDK what I just watched, but it is definitely not the video I would have made if I'd directed it. Nice suit, though, Sean.
And here's another reminder, if you want a holiday card, leave a comment on
this post.
