Wounds, Scars & People…

Have you ever had a wound that healed completely without leaving any sort of scar or mark behind? I have a couple of those and when ever I look at that part, for a moment I imagine how it had looked with the wound; And in that moment I feel utterly invincible…

Did you know that the human brain has this adaptive nature that literally ignores information that is thrown at it, in order to make better sense of the rest of the information.

For example if for any reason the cornea of your eye gets slightly damaged and leaves a tiny mark on it. Think of it like a dust particle on the lens of your camera. When ever you take a photo it appears in the exact same spot in each photo. Your brain recognizes this aberration and over time totally ignores it; ie, for the person, he has no idea that there is actually a blot in the cornea of this eye.

I sometimes wonder if we treat people the same way. Once you are close to them and used to them, you absolutely totally ignore some of the things they do. Its a bit like watching someone age, unless there are visible signs(Grey hairs?) its very hard to recognize the aging process in someone close.

I guess this is a good thing… It lets you go on with life without wanting to kill people close to you.
