Last year, I hoped to get my PSIA level 1 for cross country ski instruction, but it didn't happen. This year I have signed up to take one of the classes and the level 1 exam. After yesterdays rain storm, we expected the snow to be miserable and went hiking instead of skiing. My parents and I went to a small mountain, Pitcher Mountain, on the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway in south western NH. Everything looked according to plan until ten miles out from the trail head. The first snowfall is always fun. It is a first brief appetizer for the coming season -- usually not enough to ski on, but just enough that everyone starts dusting off their skis, ski movies, and plans for the winter.
