personality- Overall, Kio is friendly, kind, and determined, but he can also be a bit loud, stubborn, and somewhat of a spaz.
Getting to know Kio is extremely easy. He's very outgoing and can talk to pretty much anyone, provided there's actually something to talk about (and if there isn't, he'll more than likely find some way to get the conversation going again, if need be). He's got a knack for helping and befriending others, particularly those that hurt or injured, those that are feeling down, and those that just seem like they could use another friend.
While making friends might be fine and dandy, no one will ever be as close to Kio as his best friend, Soubi. Extremely loyal, Kio would do anything the other asked of him without hesitation, if only to make him happy. He is very protective of Soubi, always at his side. In the beginning of the series, Kio even goes so far as to say he's practically his wife. Going along with this self-appointed title, Kio makes sure that everything Soubi needs to finish gets finished, reminding him about art project deadlines, where he's supposed to be and when, etc. Every now and again, Kio will flirt with Soubi, often making sexual comments and/or suggestions that are always turned down, though he's probably come to expect the rejections by now, and is never too hurt by them.
Despite his friendly, upbeat attitude, Kio can also be rather straight-forward - blunt, if you will. He doesn't hesitate to remind Soubi how much he dislikes Seimei, often stating that he's glad he died if only so Soubi wouldn't have to suffer his abuse any longer. With a strong opposition to violence, Kio makes it clear that he did not approve of the older Aoyagi's ways. When meeting Seimei's brother, Ritsuka, he assumes the younger Aoyagi will be just the same as the older, not afraid to tell him what he thought of Seimei and how bad of a person he really was, despite Ritsuka's objections. He is also stubborn, and persistent when it comes to Soubi and his problems, wanting nothing more than to be of comfort in any way he can offer.
More often than not, Kio will over exaggerate or overreact to little things that aren't as spectacular/horrifying/serious/etc. as he makes them out to be. When this happens, he's often rather loud and obnoxious, very expressive and... colorful (in every sense of the word) without being vulgar. This is not to say he can't be serious. When it comes to more grave matters, Kio while scared, can still be rather calm.
While Soubi always seems to have a cigarette on hand or pressed between his lips, Kio is much the same, only he doesn't smoke. Kio is addicted to lollipops, and nine times out of ten, he'll have one tucked in his cheek, or, at the very least, he'll have a few on hand to share or to enjoy for himself.
Generally speaking, Kio is a pretty decent guy. He cares very much for his friends, often going out of his way to make them happy, even if it means sacrificing a bit of his own happiness to make it happen.
facts- → Kio has fourteen visible piercings (seven in each ear, two of which he did himself with his own piercing gun), and a tribal tattoo that spreads across his whole back. He also has a small tattoo of a star on his right hand ring finger.
→ It is mentioned in a character bio found in a magazine that Kio has a wife and child, though they have only just recently been introduced in the manga. Kio states, though, that "Shikiko" (his daughter) doesn't feel like his daughter because she's close in age to him and she was born without his knowledge in a place he's not familiar with. He also never refers to Shikiko's mother (Shieko) as his wife and even goes so far as to ask for Shikiko's permission to see Shieko. This leads me to believe that Kio's relationship with this woman is not the typical husband/wife relationship and that perhaps he's not as close to Shieko as one would imagine he should be. My assumption is that perhaps he was pressured into finding a wife in order to produce a child to carry on the family name, but that he doesn't love Shieko as his wife. This is purely my speculation, though.
Because there is so little information regarding Kio's relationship with Shikiko and Shieko, I prefer not to make any reference to them at all unless completely necessary, if only to avoid incorrect/poor characterization on Kio's part until more information is provided.
→ In Loveless, cat ears and tail signify a character's virginity. Kio has neither.
sample action post- [Kio jumps to his feet and quickly adjusts his glasses as he looks around.]
Oh god... Oh god, not again! Where--
[he pauses, blinks, noticing a small scrap of paper with a bit of chalk attached. curious, he stoops down to pick it up.]
'Use this well?' Souchan? ... Souchan, is this some kid of joke? Well, it's not very funny, you know!
[he frowns, crossing his arms over his chest. you could almost say he's pouting.]
When I find you, I'm going to... [he pauses again, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.] W-well, I don't know what I'm going to do, but you can bet it's going to be something terrible! I'll... I'll take away your cigarettes and-- and I'll hide them! Yeah~!
[he tapers off, waiting for a response. upon being met with silence, he sighs and pockets the chalk and the note before heading towards the end of the alley, muttering under his breath.]
I don't know what that means, but... I'm terrible with chalk.
sample prose post- Here, taken from when I played him at discedo. If you'd like another example, I'd be happy to supply another.
