Near the beginning of December I starting a Good Things journal. It's not quite the same ad a gratitude journal. Getting the snow shoveled is a good thing and I'm glad I am able to do it but I don't know if I'm grateful to have to push all that snow. I try to write down 5 good thing every day. Usually the day after so it's also a memory exercise.
Good thing are
Things I've accomplished like chores or errands
Something I've done for someone else
Something someone has done for me
Tasty things I've eaten
Entertainment or recreation I've enjoyed
Pleasant social interactions which includes my pets
Etc.
Some days are full of accomplishments and productive things I've done. Other days are pet snuggles, comfort food, and iPad entertainment. When I get really busy and tired I often forget. But I've tried to incorporate it into my morning routine and write even when the day didn't seem very full of good things. I know I have many many good things in my life and this is helping me to see them.
