Author's Notes: This was a fun challenge. Thanks to the mods for putting it together. Sorry if the format and font look weird, and for the wonky post, but LJ decided to be very difficult just as I was trying to post.

Betriz awoke to Caz’s gentle shaking. He was looking straight into her face from a kneeling position next to their bed. He was wearing one of those maniacal grins.“Come with me.”

“Where? ...too early.” She tried to roll over, but he kept hold of her shoulder.

“You love mornings.”

She yawned and closed her eyes at least. “Not morning yet. Still dark.”

“It won’t be for very long. Please.” She opened her eyes again in the face of his smiling, yet resolute, stare. There was no resisting that grin nor the way he walked his fingers from her shoulder up to her chin. And she was curious despite herself.

“Fine. But if I don’t find whatever you want to show me to my satisfaction, you owe me a favor.”

She rose and found that he had already carefully draped clothes over the chair that sat in front of her vanity mirror. Once she was dressed, Caz took her hand and led her silently down the corridor and the stairs to reach the main level, around a few turns, and out into a disused back garden.

He sat down in the dewy grass and tugged her hand to indicate that she should do the same. He still did not say a word, and Betriz did not want to intrude upon his intense silence. He seemed to be praying. But then he opened his eyes, brilliant with exultation. Patting the ground next to him, he said, “Come here.”

She snuggled up against him and rested her head against his shoulder. She was just beginning to doze off when Caz nudged her and pointed to the east with the arm that was not wrapped around her. “Oh!” The sky had lost all its grayness without her noticing. It was suddenly alight with golds and pinks and oranges. The light seemed to give birth to the world anew, and here they were in their own garden paradise. The multifarious colors gradually melted away as a clear blue gained ascendency.

She turned to Caz to see tears glistening on his cheeks. But he smiled and pulled her up with his good hand. He led her into an impromptu pattern of dance steps as he followed some internal rhythm that she could not hear. She was only too happy to follow him. She felt herself caught up in his pure joy, not needing to seek a reason behind it.

They twirled and twirled. They turned into each other and then broke apart to improvise their own steps, only to return to each other at intervals. He held her close and they swayed for a time. They breathed each other in. He dipped her smoothly for the finish. They were both breathless as he leaned over her.

When he raised her back into a standing position, they kissed long and deep. She resented the fabric that separated them. “Well, did you find my reason for waking you sufficient?” His smile told her that he knew the answer.

She kissed him again. “Yes, but you won’t object when I ask that we return to bed now?”

“Not at all, my lady. Lead on.”
