lacking perfection
by: ivy quihuis

today my smile may be bright
skin smooth to the touch
eyes sparkling in the twilight
but already you've said too much

i catch those eyes searching
your gaze seeping in my soul
already i feel myself sneaking
expectations taking their toll

i enjoy just being with you
giggling and tickling amidst the stars
this free conversation is long since overdue
hoping that you can look past my scars

looking through your eyes
perception blinds you from my affection
peer past my disguise
intentions masked by a longing for perfection

leave it at sweet kisses against my forehead
silence talk of forever
speak the dreams of today instead
tell me of all you wish to endeavor

tingling as you lightly caress
scared of a promise i cannot hold
not here to be captured i must confess
just wishing to see the story unfold

public, poetry
