volatile
by: ivy quihuis

you
this reflection of
me
together
struggling to just be

twin grins over eternal flame,
quick cameos from whence we came
doomed shadows of way-back-when
kindling flashback fires again

never thinking to douse...

smoky,

l i n g e r i n g ,

lament

selfish, fleeting words
best kept as thoughts

habitually, forever...

what the hell, light the candles!
grab it down from stow-away
in this should-be-forgotten hallway,

torn thin tapestries
eyes closed,
fingers find every hole

lost

in the coarse,
cracked crevice

ill-equipped
drowning the pain

alone

softly we swallow,
whispering for a unified tomorrow

public, poetry
