The Child's Toy

How do kids get away with the toys they have these days? It really amazes me because of all the safety features that toys have. I wish there was a bit more danger for kids these days, infant mortality rate is way down...I'm just kidding about that last part! But I'm talking about the kinda toys that kids had, or made in the 50's. The one that stands out to me was the prehistoric cell phones that kids had. You know the kind, two tin cans connected with a string, about like anything that Motorola puts out these days. But if you think about these toys isn't it amazing that kids weren't seriously maimed by these things. I'm mean, rusty cans that kids cut the top off of. If Timmy is speaking across the ally with Gert (that's an old fashioned girls name) and she tells him an especially juicy piece of gossip, or just tells him that she's undoing her girdle, Timmy might slip with the can-phone and cut his ear off. I mean having one of these things taught kids discipline. That's why most people from this era don't flinch when they uncomfortably bring up the subject of sexual pleasures. Though excruciating as it might be for a child, the parent has no problem, and this can all be attributed to the dangerous toys of their youth. So what's it going to be like for you and me when we have to tell our kids about Space docking, and felching? Just ponder that.
