The second he got far enough into the house, Dean realized he should have trusted the instinct that said the day was going to get worse. Right now it wasn't so much suspicion, but more the fact that he'd been banking on getting a night alone with the other man. The benefits of having someone who understood his job but was grounded in real, normal life was something he'd never found valuable until things had developed between them, and right now he was feeling selfish and sore.

Nodding in greeting, only out of some loyalty to not show up the other man in front of whoever the hell this woman was, Dean cleared his throat and managed to not look like he'd been caught off-guard too. This wasn't how their evenings together usually went.

"Nice to meet you." At least, that's what he figured normal people said as some sort of civil conversation filler. In reality, he wanted to know who she was and why she wasn't already headed out the door. Somewhere deep down he was glad he hadn't walked through the door detailing all the things he was going to do to the other man. Though maybe he was in a bad enough mood to let Jimmy squirm for a while. Regardless, he said nothing more, nodding once again before heading through to the kitchen for a beer. Keeping some form of normality wasn't a bad idea, he thought.

Jimmy could already tell that he was in trouble by Dean's forced chivalry and when he was finished gathering the papers he set them aside in the desk that overlooked the foyer and moved to follow Dean into the kitchen, leaving Jane sit there for the moment looking confused.

In his former relationship he probably wouldn't have gone to the trouble to fix things at all, but with Dean he knew that if he didn't tackle the problem head on he'd just stew until it became an explosive ordeal. He'd learned that much about him the first few times they had fought. They'd been living together, or something like it, for almost five months now.

"It's a work thing," he reassured him. Moving to refrigerator after Dean had taken his beer out to take out a small dish with tin foil over it. "I was experimenting during writers block," he said before setting it down. Within it were bite sized apple pies. They weren't quite the same standard as a normal pie, but they were close enough. He turned back to sneak a look at Jane, wondering why she didn't have the common sense to go.

Dean took his time gulping down some of the amber liquid having rushed to get the cap off the top. Less and less he was finding himself drinking when he was around Jimmy. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been drunk around the man. But old habits die hard, and he figured this was the best way to keep his mouth shut before he said something stupid.

"Work thing at dinnertime?" He didn't need to look at the time, he already knew how long he'd been on the road and didn't need to base his knowledge of what time it was around anything else. His tone made it plainly obvious he was on the verge of sulking, though. He couldn't help it.

"Whatever." His eyes were drawn to the dish until he forced them back to the counter. He wasn't going to be placated by tiny, delicious-looking apple pies. He wasn't that cheap. Or shallow. But they did look good.

Frowning, he adjusted his stance up against the counter and looked at Jimmy, trying to stay annoyed. As soon as he heard movement from the other room, the annoyance was genuine. "Doesn't she have somebody else's house to sit in? Like, I dunno. Her own?"

Jimmy gave a bereft sigh and tore the palm of his hand across his face to physically show his own annoyance with the situation, he'd been feeling this way for the past thirty minutes. Things just weren't going well with this new editor that was half his age and very flamboyantly open about her own sexuality.

"She makes me uncomfortable," he blurted out, more to himself than to Dean. "But she's my editor and she's high label, I..." He trailed off, sulking himself a little. "She's higher up on the business totem pole for the news paper than I am."

Bad mood or not, Dean wasn't angry enough to not see for himself how uncomfortable Jimmy felt. Without surrendering the distance between them, he let out a huff of his own and swallowed down more of the beer, placing the bottle on the counter as he stood up straighter.

Unlike Jimmy, he had no boss to report back to. It had taken him a long time to figure it out, and even longer to stop looking for one. He didn't understand, however, how someone half Jimmy's age was his superior. He had even less knowledge of proper working etiquette.

"Can I just tell her to leave?" He asked looking, for the most part, hopeful. He didn't want to waste precious time hiding in the damn kitchen because there was some kid barely out of college making herself at home.

Jimmy held a hand out in front of him and between them to tell Dean to take it one step at a time without verbalizing it. He gesticulated often, it was a part of his nature, mostly because in moments like these words didn't really come to him.

After sweeping his hair back across his scalp with that hand, Jimmy walked back into the living room sans tea cup and folded his hands together in front of his waist.

"I've appreciated the help, Jane, but I need to get back on track with familial things." Yes, he called Dean family. "So, I'll see you sometime in the next three weeks?" Awkward Jimmy was awkward.

"Oh." Jane looked about as curious as before, the blunt hint not being missed this time and she took a few seconds to process the pieces of information she was being given before she moved. Slipping her shoes back on, she started gathering her bag up, the question she wanted to ask on the tip of her tongue. The Dean guy appeared into her field of vision over Jimmy's shoulder, and, being the youngster in the whole situation, she couldn't help herself.

"Dean is your... brother? Cousin?" She paused then, clearly trying to do the math in her head. "You don't look very much alike."

Dean's snort came at exactly the wrong moment, just as Jane stopped speaking and right before he figured Jimmy would have come up with some kind of answer. He had no idea who, if anyone, Jimmy had told about their situation. Sam knew. Sam had known from the moment Dean had taken it upon himself to lay down his life for the other man. But he wasn't as in tune with his emotions as his girly younger brother. So he stood in the background, suddenly feeling like he was being put under inspection, the whole routine not doing wonders for his mood - he wanted her out the house so he could greet the other man properly.

He dipped his chin a little at the public persecution and took a long breath, feeling naked in the lime light that happened to be his own home. He didn't answer the question, though, as it was none of her business. He just leaned over and picked up her copy of the rough draft before handing it to her and escorting her to the door.

"I appreciated your opinions today, and thanks for the tea."

He was just trying to be polite. He wanted her gone just as much as Dean did.

Watching from his spot at the kitchen door, Dean felt some kind of satisfaction at seeing Jimmy take control finally. He wondered how long he'd been putting up with her for, went as far as crossing his arms over his chest in defiance even though she'd already been walked through to the front door.

Jimmy stepped back inside and shut the door of his house quietly behind him after escorting Jane out and gave Dean a look from beneath his lids. He was insecure and, 'I wasn't expecting you,' was bar none the worst excuse he could use in this situation.

"I'm sorry... for that." Jimmy's eyes glanced past him to the unfinished beer in the kitchen.

Not quite as willing to honestly admit he'd been caught off-guard, which implied he let pretty much all of his guards down when he stepped into the house, Dean shrugged a non-committal shoulder. It hadn't taken long for him to get wound up about the unexpected house guest, and while this wasn't his house, he'd already confessed to himself that it felt like home. He wasn't ready for intrusion into whatever they were doing and wherever their relationship was going.

"She invited herself here?" It was almost an olive branch, almost a reason to give to Jimmy to save him having to apologize any further. His possessive streak ran deeper than he realized.

Jimmy just lowered his shoulders and took a long breath in through his nose. At the very least the house was clear of the papers that were normally scattered about, and Dean was here, he valued all time he had with the hunter.

"I'm uncomfortable with her as a whole. She's more than half my age and..." he trailed off. "It's inappropriate. I don't enjoy her company as much as she seems to enjoy mine."

He didn't understand women. Being brought up in a strict militant catholic home he was sheltered the majority of his life and was stricken for not abiding by the rules or common courtesy, public decency, and male chivalry. His editor set off red alarms in his head.

Dean disliked what Jimmy was telling him. He actually went one further and decided he hated it. He'd had more than his fair share of women, and while a lot of them didn't make complete sense to him either, he understood how they operated. He figured out pretty fast after that the other man had probably given her an innocent metaphorical inch and she'd taken the whole mile.

He didn't bother answering, instead closed the space between them and pulled the other man close, actions firm and strong. He wasn't in the mood to debate what exactly her intentions had been, just wanted to serve Jimmy a reminder as to who was allowed to do this to him.

"Shoulda done this when she was here." He mumbled against the side of Jimmy's neck, kissing and sucking hard enough to leave a mark before he moved to his lips, caught them in an open-mouthed, passion and jealousy-filled kiss.

Jimmy had been expecting to get berated. Mostly because it was what he was used to, what Amelia would have done. There was a lot about his past life that carried over, but Dean seemed to wash it all away with the embrace and the feeling of his full lips attached to his neck.

His arms instinctively raised so that he could press his finger tips into Dean's shoulder blades and when their position changed to a bruising kiss on the lips, he couldn't hide the deft sound of both contentment and elation that slid between them.

"She's not allowed this." Dean added as he broke the kiss, nose nudging up Jimmy's jaw so he could kiss and then rake his teeth over his throat. It was something he realized he'd let Jimmy do too now, let him near one of the most vulnerable parts of his body, and as he came to terms with that, his arms tightened around the other man's body, holding him as close as possible.

Jimmy could only nod in response to Dean's statement. He should know that by now. He should know that it was only him. The same reason he kept his house and bed open and the same reason the majority of what was in the fridge catered to him.

The former angel breathed out a desperate sigh at the wet feeling of his mouth against his neck and his skin ignited with goose bumps.
