Chapter 4

Yunho didn’t think twice when he slammed the door in Jaejoong’s face.

It was beyond his comprehension how the other man had discovered his location (rather quickly) after their encounter last night. Not that he had meant to leave the other in a dazed state of mind, feeble to the outside world, but Yunho didn’t have much choice because no one- absolutely no one was supposed to see him last night.

He clutched his hand onto the knob, hesitant to open the door once more after reminiscing his misdeeds at the banquet and how he had fooled nearly the entire town all in one night.

It was worth it. No one was supposed to find out and there’s no harm in having precautions. He reminded himself. The only reason he had dared to visit Jessica’s home in broad daylight was because he had not met the lady herself, only the evil replica that posed as her and had dared to attack the beautiful man in the garden last night. Just the thought frustrated Yunho to no end and it surprised him when a voice called out to him.

“Yunho darling, who was at the door?” Echoed the voice of the taunting heiress who soon came into Yunho’s view, and he let out a shiver.

Not long ago had he mingled with Jessica’s thoughts, expecting her to abruptly apologize for her unlady-like manners and ask him to leave, however, he did not anticipate her feral actions to actually pounce onto him and ravish his lips so lustfully. He let out a shiver and grimaced.

Conveniently, there were a few knocks on the door that caused his escape and a very lustful heiress clawing him for his return.

Faintly, he didn’t even realize the house was completely devoid of servants, whom he was sure would attend to the door first. But with the constant knocking and the fact that Jessica had so implied many intimate things in her unlady-like manner, Yunho didn’t hesitate to answer the door despite being a guest. Jessica probably planned it that way, but the face he saw showed she didn’t.

Although it surprised him nevertheless once he saw whose presence was beyond the door.

Jaejoong.

The very man that had been plaguing his mind since last night with those soft lips, smooth skin, and hypnotizing eyes that Yunho wished he didn’t have to bend to. It was disheartening when he let the realization slip into his mind and how he had done to the other man wrong by stealing those succulent lips and sweet touches.

Even worse, the beautiful man didn’t even realize it had happened.

Right. He doesn’t remember. He shouldn’t. Yunho told himself, feeling a tinge of pain in his chest that he couldn’t enjoy the expression of the other man recognizing his presence.

But when he uttered, “Yunho” out of fear, Yunho closed the door abruptly. Debating whether he should escape while he can with a heiress right behind him or open the door and apologize for his rudeness because he had been unnaturally surprised- which he was, and ask for forgiveness.

Either option wasn’t pleasant and both were not going to leave him alone unless he decide to be rash and rude, but neither will give him anything near good. He’s already mingled with Jessica’s thoughts and he would rather not have to go through Jaejoong’s again, especially when the said man wasn’t supposed to remember anything at all. He sighed and opened the door.

To Yunho’s dismay, Jaejoong was still there and he hadn’t at all moved from his spot. It was terrible to watch Jaejoong’s worried face because he couldn’t bear to look at it any longer and not give the other man a hug or some sort of antidote to cure his misery.

Fortunately, Yunho recollected himself when he found Jessica coming out the door and greeting Jaejoong, who nodded (and secretly looked at Yunho from the corner of his eyes). Yunho could tell.

“Oh, Jaejoong! What brings you here?” Jessica greeted, giving Jaejoong a hug and he reciprocated the gesture warmly. The exchange was simple. As simple as two friends rejoicing after a long journey and only reuniting when they found each other again, and it was evident to Yunho that the two didn’t see each other as more than that.

“Well, my lady, I shall be leaving.” Yunho announced.

“But Jaejoong just got here and I haven’t introduced you to him yet.” She huffed (lady-like) and even at the end of those words, there was a hint of whining that she was also not going to admit anytime soon.

“It’s fine. He must be in a hurry and we can’t keep him waiting, Jessica.” Jaejoong spoke with such a sweet velvet voice, dripping with honeydew and Yunho was tempted to kiss him.

“Oh yes, of course. I shouldn’t have kept you from minding your business.” Jessica did a curtsey.”Be well on your journey, sir. Please visit again.” She said those last words lowly, obviously implying something for which she and Yunho had not finished off. Yunho nodded, ignoring the hints and taking one last glance at the two, his eyes lingering on Jaejoong before he let himself out the door and said his goodbyes- Jaejoong having the last bit of their small conversation.

“It was a pleasure meeting you, sir.”

The moment the door closed, Jessica had swiftly grabbed onto Jaejoong’s arm and led him to one of her private study rooms at the end of the hall. It reminded Jaejoong of last night and how she had done the same, dragging him along and then, probably clawing him the next. His eyes widened at the thought and he started tugging on his sleeve feebly.

“J-Jessica, wait- W-wha-“ The slam of the door cut him off and it seemed people love to slam doors on Jaejoong today.

She let go of his sleeve without a thought and Jaejoong backed away to the door, fearful of what she might do next.

“Oh Lord, Joongie. Did you have to come at such a crucial time? I almost had him! Bold as I was, he could have fallen for my lips and kiss my hand right then and there, if you hadn’t come knocking.” She sighed loudly, her hand rubbing the skin on her forehead.

Jaejoong didn’t understand what she was talking about until he studied her lips and how bruised and red they looked. Her lipstick was smeared onto the bottom of her chin and her hair ruffled into a mess. After the realization had drawn to him, he let out a sigh.

“I thought he had kissed your hand last night?” Jaejoong asked, the memory coming to him back to him in hazy pieces as he recall the man asking her- him for a dance.

“What are you talking about, Jaejoong?” She crossed her arms. “There was not a handsome man who asked me to dance with him last night. I only left with a decent man who wouldn’t put shame to my beauty.”

The roughness of her voice spoke flatly and not something she would have said out in public unless she was ensured the safety of her words behind closed doors. Jaejoong knew that tone all too well and how she was able to retain her lady-like manners and obtain hundreds of suitors up until now was still a mystery to him.

“D-do you remember how he looks like? What about the man who just left? Didn’t he reject you last night?” Jaejoong spoke, unsure of his question- or rather of his memory of last night’s events. How was it that he could remember the man who just walked through her doors, yet Jessica was unable to recognize the man at all?

All of this felt strange to Jaejoong.

“Oh lord, Jaejoong. Do you think I remember all my suitors- or at least one that bothered to reject me at a banquet and in full view to the whole town?” She huffed in distaste and Jaejoong felt sorry for making such an accusation.

“And where were you, Jaejoong?” Her voice sharp with a bit of envy, “where in Lord’s name did you run off to?”

Jaejoong stared at her in silent. His voice disappeared suddenly and he nearly forgot how to formula letters, much less, speak of them. He searched through his memory frantically, but to no avail, his thoughts had left him empty and clean. Slowly, he looked away and sighed.

“I don’t remember.” A low whisper came. He wasn’t sure where he was either and if all Jessica had said was true, he didn’t even meet such a man at the banquet and the one he met a few moments ago was only a strange man. Jessica let out a sigh, telling him to stay for some tea if he wished, if not, he should return home.

It was all strange.

But which were the strange parts?

Jaejoong didn’t have an answer for that either.

“Bo ah unnie, I brought some daisies today.” Miyoung chirped happily, proud that she had presented the lady with a bouquet of daisies, which were really hard to gather at the end of summer- soon to be autumn. She held them up to Bo ah, who accepted them gladly and gave her a soft pat on her head, moving some strands away from the younger’s face.

“Thank you, Miyoung. I’ll care for them.” She smiled, taking a whiff of the flowers as the younger flushed in deep red, dazed by Bo ah’s smile. She has always been a motherly figure to Miyoung, pampering her with all the right things and nurturing her until she was able to do things on her own.

Pausing, Bo ah spotted a blotch of brown and black on the grass and simply smiled.

Elegantly, she tugged her dress higher, reveal the top of her feet and ankles, just enough for her to avoid stepping onto the edge of her dress.

“I see you have return, Yunho.” She stopped above the young man laying on his back, and let the rest of her skirt pool around her feet. Yunho didn’t respond nor did he hear her- and if he did, he didn’t let it show at all and laid there on the grass like it wasn’t anyone’s concern.

Except it was for Bo ah.

Kneeling down, she pointed a daisy right at Yunho’s face and nudged him to open his eyes.

“You kissed him, right? Oh, that poor boy. Having his first kiss stolen by you and the memories of his first kiss wiped away from his mind. How cruel can you be, Yunho dear?”

That woke him up- or jumped up rather since he wasn’t asleep and only laid there for comfort. Her smile widen and she was simply happy to know that she had clearly pressed onto all the right buttons at once when Yunho let out a huff, and then a sigh.

“I-I did no such thing.” He stuttered badly, clearly lying, his cheeks flushing into a hue of red and Bo ah giggled at his own gestures.

“Do not fret, Yunho. You did well.” She assured. If it was someone who could keep them all safe and out of harm, it would Yunho. He had always been the most kind and gentle among all of them despite what his exterior aura emitted- he’d always care. Even though he was one of the very few males among their groups, Yunho had that much affection for everyone as they would for him. It was something Bo ah was proud of- the way he turned out because she had feared his gender might have caused some conflicts between the other, but they all welcomed him, grew up with him, and most of all loved him as she would.

“As Nymphs, we cannot cross paths with humans and any other species that may endanger us. We cannot allow them find us- let alone our home.” She reminded, putting a daisy behind one of Yunho’s ears. Yes, they were very affectionate, but that did mean the world would reciprocate the same thing.

“What’s wrong?” Bo ah asked, concern evident on her face, but Yunho still didn’t look at her.

“Do we really have to hide everything?” Yunho asked, legitimately curious than he was the few years Bo ah had seen. It’s been a long time since someone had asked Bo ah the very same question and she had always answered with grace- even now.

“Yes, we do.” She sat on the grass. “If we don’t, who will protect us then?” Her question falling silent with a pause and Yunho didn’t make any move to answer it. He seemed too much in thought and her answer merely broke any last hope he had in revealing himself, which she understood. There were many of their kind, who wanted to go to the outside, away from their nest and explore the world. She would not dare to hold them back, but she will always fear for their return and safety.

They both sat there quietly and Bo ah as pretty sure she knew who was running through Yunho’s head and driving him to ask such a question about their group.

She only hoped for Yunho’s safety- if not, more.

A/N: hihi~ :D I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this! It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this and life was just, well, being life. OTL For those who haven’t heard, I’m done with school and those who have, hear it again. LOL. Anyway, I’ve been catching up with so many things lately (dramas, readings, games blah blah blah /shot) and it feels so good. ; v ; Aside from that, I decided to open up proptosis which is a comm. That answers basically questions for my fics. I thought it would be fun since I’ve seen other authors do it so if you have any questions that I’ve still left unanswered, feel free to ask over there. :D
