Personality: When Chad was alive he was, for all appearances, a nice guy who liked to throw house parties and be surrounded by friends and family. He was absolutely head over heels for his long-term partner Patrick, and wanted to raise a child with him. When he's at his best he's loyal, loving, thoughtful, creative, and charming. This appearance was pretty much accurate before they bought the building popularly known as the Murder House.
The house, and the stress he put himself under trying to make it perfect, brought out Chad's failings. He strongly believes that beauty and style are vitally important, and he's driven to contribute as much as he can to his surroundings. As such, he's a meticulous perfectionist, and will become furious if anyone ruins his carefully thought out plans. His perfectionism doesn't only apply to places, but to people. He will pick at any failing someone has, no matter how much he generally likes the person. He can be incredibly judgmental, controlling, and even cruel even when he doesn't mean to be.
He judges no one more harshly than himself, though, and has a very skewed self-image. Any slight physical imperfection is a source of torment for him to the point that he sometimes doesn't want to be seen at all, even by those closest to him. In part due to his lack of confidence and obsession with perfection, he can have a low sex drive. Sex is too messy to him, and his constant fear of being less than perfect in bed makes him too anxious to be in the mood very often.
His self-consciousness can also breed jealousy. He never entirely accepted that Patrick wasn't "out of his league", and so is always on the look out for someone trying to take him away. When Patrick did begin to stray, Chad made an agreement with him that they simply wouldn't discuss it, in part because Chad didn't want the discussions to end in a break up no matter how much it bothered him that Patrick was cheating. Even with all the arguments they were having over money and the thing they weren't supposed to discuss, Chad was still devoted to making their relationship work and get back on track... unfortunately, he and Pat were murdered just before Halloween 2010.
However, people in the Murder House don't stay dead, and Chad is currently a corporeal spirit who 'lives' in the basement where he was killed. His mindset is stuck in the place it was when he died; in love with a man who leaves him and cheats on him, and watching his perfect house rearranged and changed without any power to stop it.
Chad recently began to regain a little hope that he would have all the things he wanted: A loving relationship, beautiful children, and a fashionable home. He was beginning to be happy again. Unfortunately, his happiness was short-lived, and it came out that Patrick had fallen in love with someone else before he died, and now he resents Chad because he's stuck with him in the house for eternity.
This has finally destroyed what hope Chad had of making their relationship work again, and of raising the babies with Patrick. Since he's dead and unable to leave the house, he doesn't believe that he could find anything (or anyone) else who could make him happy. And really, he's not sure that he would've been able to even if he were still alive, because he is so deeply in love with Patrick and always pictured the two of them starting a perfect family.
His heart is broken and his spirit is crushed, but he can still sling catty insults with the best of them.
