Fandom Appreciation Challenge - Love Letter to fandom.

Mar 04, 2007 23:21

The first day of the challenge involved sending feedback for three stories that are at least six months old. One of the stories I'd chosen is actually a series of stories. I sent my feedback by email and got a lovely reply from the writer in which I discovered that the stories were ten years old. I'd only found them about two or three years ago.

This got me thinking thinking about how long I've been in online fandom. It's been eight or nine years now. My first fandom was Cats. The last time I really looked at that fandom was two or three years ago and many of the pages I went to are now gone. It got me thinking about how grateful I am to the people leave up their stories and webpages from older fandoms. Especially if the person has moved on from that fandom.

First the stories that I started this post with. These are all Yuusuke x Koenma fics in the Yuu Yuu Hakusho fandom. Koenma is my favorite character and Yuusuke x Koenma is my favorite pairing. Both of which are very rare in YYH fandom. That I managed to find the fics was amazing enough. That they are really good fics is an absolute gift.

Next two links in the Voltron fandom. First the webpage for the Kaex mailing list. The mailing list is still going strong but the webpage hasn't been updated since 2004. The other is A Princess and Her Knight the webpage of my favorite Voltron writer. This site hasn't been updated since 1999. Thankfully the storyline was at a decent stopping point. I reread the stories on the page whenever I need to read a carefully built slowly evolving romantic storyline.

In the Star Trek Voyager fandom we have Jupiter Station the place for all Janeway/Paris needs. This is hands down my favorite shipper site ever. I think it's mainly because of the fact that they accept any story that centers around the relationship between Janeway and Paris whether it's romantic or not. This was also one of my gateways to slash with the Janeway/Chakotay/Paris threesome stories.

Over in Babylon 5 fandom there is the John and Delenn page which hasn't had a major update since 1999. There isn't any fic but there is some interesting analysis and a nice, though unfinshed episode guide. For fic the place I go to is Jump Now. Most of the stories are John/Delenn but there are other pairings including some femslash.

Finally, The Rescue Ranger Databse, the main home of the Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers fandom. This site has fanfic and fanart from the nineties to the current time. This is also the place to find the first fanfic to make me sit up and go wow. That fic is Michael Demcio's Rhyme and Reason. One of these days I will have to make a post detailing my love for this story.

With the exception of the first link, these are all fandoms I first found online in the late nineties. While now my major fandom interest lie elsewhere, I'm very happy that when I want to revisit these fandoms there are places that I can do that.
