WODEHOUSE!

Jan 25, 2009 20:53

I found this tiny hole-in-the-wall used book shop on a street I have never walked down in my life...and scored a ton of Wodehouse! Best yet? They were dirt cheap!

The owner is in it all for the "getting people to read" aspect of it and not for the money (!), he is a Wodehouse fan (he was in a Wodehouse-mood and obtained the books) and we promoted ( Read more... )

What a fantastic score! Good on you, and good on this delightful indie book shop. The more we buy at indie book shops, the better I feel. Every time I visit the Strand, there is always a new used Wodehouse in the W section, even though I always buy whatever is there every time I go in. So I have quite a few of these too, although not the orange Penguin editions, which are lovely.

I guess I mean: \o/

EDIT: wait, I suppose I should ask; where the heck is this shop? I'd love to stop in sometime, even if the Wodehouse section's been cleared out.

is that YOU buying all the Wodehouse? ;)

I am coveting the Everyman/Overlook Press hardcover editions (though it is simply because they are hardcover versions not necessary for the dj-illustrations) but simply cannot afford them all...I was extremely tempted to say, WTF and splurge...but I don't have to right now! woot!

Shop's in Queens. It's the front of this tiny hardware-type store that had handwritten signs out front that caught my eye. :) There were five of us in there and if another person came in we would have got to know each other pretty well. I think a person can touch shelf and then touch one on opposite side of the space, it's that small. Will be sure to give you the address!

I'm still giddy over my purchases!

Yeah, I know, I know, I should leave some for others, but I just can't help it. Every single time: an edition with cover art I've never seen, or an interesting inscription, or just a title I plain haven't read yet. It's totally my fault, and I apologize.

I have bought two of the Overlook editions new, and they are very, very nice. Proper size and good paper thickness and all that geeky stuff, but...I dunno, for some reason, I get more pleasure from reading an old yellowed Wodehouse that smells like someone's already had some fun with it.

Erm. You know what I mean.

But yeah, lemme get the addy from you sometime.
