WODEHOUSE!

Jan 25, 2009 20:53

I found this tiny hole-in-the-wall used book shop on a street I have never walked down in my life...and scored a ton of Wodehouse! Best yet? They were dirt cheap!

The owner is in it all for the "getting people to read" aspect of it and not for the money (!), he is a Wodehouse fan (he was in a Wodehouse-mood and obtained the books) and we promoted Wodehouse to this couple who never heard of him but became extremely interested, AND we discussed J&W - he kindly offered to bring in his recordings but I informed him I had seen the show and have the DVDs. He was shocked when I said Bertie was played by Hugh Laurie (he and the missus watch House every week). <3

If he wasn't married and more than double/triple my age...

I also picked up some other great books...
I found #15 in a different section and figured I was lucky for finding one Wodehouse. I slowly made my way around the shop...and there, on the top-most shelf, waaaaay in the corner, was a half of a shelf just of Wodehouse. I cleaned that sucker off quicker than the owner could blink. :)

WANT YOUR VERY OWN COPY OF PICCADILLY JIM?
In my glee, I picked up two copies of Piccadilly Jim (1918). It's available as a free etext...but it's this ORANGE PENGUIN version. But if anyone is interested, I would be happy to mail it. I'm afraid the other books are mine. At least for now:)

ETA: I would mail it for free, in case that wasn't clear. Just need an address.x
