Elen has decided, at the ripe auld age of 12 1/2 that she is goth and that even goth girls wear pink (hot pink, mom!) and listen to The Wanted...she and her friend, Aubrie are going to go hang out at one of the local cemetaries today and brood, most likely. She's going for Samhain as Abby Sciuto, the goth forensic scientist on NCIS, outfit of choice is british miniskirt over black leggings, a black skull tshirt, lab coat and dog collar and wrist cuff with fishnet gloves and dark red patent leather combat boots. My kid seriously rocks. Oh yes, black lipstick and nail polish LOL I will say roller derby has been phenomenal for her - I am impossibly proud of her and am forever watching her with absolute wonder...she's skating ten thousand times better than I ever did - she's one of the Hellgate Hellions (Jr League) but the training team, not the skirmish or bout team - she's learning the basics, is now able to jump over a broom handle with both feet up at the same time, skate backwards, body slam (!) and I watch with my jaw on the floor as she comes skating up, totally excited, "Mom! Check it! I've got my first injury!" OK so it was a bruise on her chin for falling on something on a mat LOL
She got to cheer for the adult teams last night at a bout at the University - she got home and we got to watch Dead Files together and she started asking questions about the dead and what does it all mean and ghosty stuff...ghosts in our building, ghosts we have known....you get the jist. We live in a fairly old building for the States...well, the Western States...it's just over 100 yrs old so she's now fascinated and thinking that she's living in what might be a haunted house LOL When it came to talk of family and funerals, etc. we'd lost Papa and our cousin, Clinton this summer, so that was a difficult thing, but we talked about what it means to go to graveyards and visit our loved ones - to visit Helena from time to time and visit family graves there....what does that mean....and she's learning more every day - finding depth in things every day that she's never had before...it's a beautiful thing to see and watching her grow like this just quite simply fills my heart.
