Title: Branch Prompt: Generations Author: CeriseReve Character: Don Spoilers: None Rating: G Summary: Don imagines his family tree. Disclaimer: I do not own anything in the Numb3rs universe. Word Count: 100
The more I read from you, the more impressed I am...
You have such a way with words and imagery...the way you string together the metaphor through the drabble...it's poetic and just lovely. Simply lovely. Plus - it's highly impressive that you can say all that in 100 words. I love to write. And I think I write rather well...but I have yet to restrict myself to a word limit. That's my next challenge. :)
Poor Donnie. I know at least one person (aka my BFF julietm) who would be MORE than happy to give him babies...LOTS of babies so his tree would branch. ;p
It’s interesting you mention the word restriction. These drabbles are as much of a learning tool as they are a stalling technique from my large, unfinished fic. I’m working very hard to contain myself to 100 words. It means going over each drabble about twelve times to get it to say what want it to say, but it is a wonderful lesson. I highly recommend it. And if you need the kick, I’ll challenge you to do it. =)
LOL! Somehow I doubt there would be a lack of willing ladies. Don’s branch won’t wither away and die. He just needs the proper woman.
I've been getting back on a writing kick...and trying to give myself a 100-300 word limit is on my list of things to do. I'll keep you posted. ;p I may just need the kick.
Whew. The more of these little prompts I read from you Kristen, the more you blow me away. The challenge of writing so little and having the meaning so big is a big one indeed. I'd like to think that I do it, but you are rather excellent at it.
That is the trick of writing. Not seeing how many esoteric and five dollar words you can stick into a sentence; it's getting the symbollism and those many different layers out of those words.
Bravo! And I don't think that Don's branch will wither and die. Ely will always step in if needed. ;) Though I do like that you stuck in the part about him being the oldest and it seeming right for him to be first as opposed to Charlie being first.
And I have now rambled on quite enough for today. :p
It is a challenge to squeeze everything into 100 words. The first draft of this had 150+ words if I remember correctly. The oldest part got cut at one point, but I really wanted it included, so I cut and cut and cut to squeeze the concept in. The oldest bit could have just as easily come from my mouth as it could from Don’s.
Not to completely set ely off here, but I tend to think that there is more of a probability of Don’s tree dying than it branching.

I think, going back to S's 1, 2, and 3, that Don's branch would have died. I can totally see that, with the way he couldn't commit and etc... We could go on and on there
( ... )
Nice... I normally don't go for first person fic, but I like yours. :-)
I love the tree metaphor and I like that Don's not bitter with Charlie and Amita. He did have a shot with Kim so he could have been first, but things happen.
So far all of my drabbles have been in first person. I’m not quite sure how or why that happened, but it is what is coming naturally. Never argue with a muse.
You read it as Don not being bitter with Charlie and Amita? Funny, in my head Don is very bitter. He’s buried it incredibly deeply, but it’s there and it isn’t about to go away.
