An Insult

I've been wracking my brain-and dictionary.com-all day to find just the perfect word. Do you know a word, term, or phrase that meets this description?
  1. It's an insult.
  2. It would have been in the common vernacular 500 years ago (or isn't something obviously circa 2010).
  3. The word isn't commonly used by the wealthy.
  4. It is a word someone could easily not know the definition of.
  5. It is somehow related to arrogance, selfishness, power, being gullible, irrationality, petulance, or sacrificing others for your own benefit.  (It doesn't have to be all of these things at once.)
  6. Bonus points if it hyphenated.
  7. Double bonus points if you can tie in an irrational hatred of magic or the mystical.
The best I've been able to come up with are coxcomb, cocksure, or gudgeon. None of them are quite right.   =(

Help!

p.s.  I've used the search for this word as a stalling tactic and an excuse for writers block.  I've gotten to the point where now I'm just annoyed with myself.
